A friend of mine has a laptop with OBDII programs on it and i decided to hook it up to our cars and i got a lot of useful info... i installed my AEM intake a week ago and i tested the Intake Air Temp and at idle it is at 68 DEGREES!!! which is pretty damn high and any speed over 25 mph it droped a lot.. ambient air temp was 35 degrees and at 25 mph cruise the IAT is 52 degrees, 30 mph and above the IAT is 40 degrees... thats a pretty good temp for a short ram... im going to make differnent heat shields and test new things to see if i can get those temps lower....

the other interesting thing is that our cars run pretty lean at higher rpms.... also when WOT and around 4000-6500 rpm and you let off the gas quickly there is a 63 degree advance on the ingition.. my friend said he has never seen that big of an advance before......

One more main thing.... i know no one has a fuel map for the mp3 and i CAN make a fuel map with his progam... if anyone is intereseted in getting a fuel map then let me know....... im gonna need one since im getting a Stand Alone......

i thought i would pass this info on to you guys....

good job. can this laptop be at our meet in june? i want to see what readings i get on my injen

Yeah the kid that has the program is going to be at the meet.. hes got a Subaru Legasy with a Turbo.... hell be running 14's maybe 13's in the 1/4... and i will probably have my own laptop with a stand alone....

beautiful information!

one more reason for me to drive some 700+ miles to michigan!

Yeah hopefully my car will be halfway finished by june....
i want to have my cams possibly exhaust and stand alone fuel manegement done..... i want to be in the 15's with those... but i dont know.... but i dont think ill have enough money to have my pistons flywheel or clutch put in..... but who knows... with all my mods i want to be in the 14's

i'm unsure of what to do next, but i want some thing to set me off by nopi in atlanta...(btw...did you read the sig. length thread?)... any suggestions on my next(non-warranty ****** mod)...?

Ok, what does the "63 degree advanced ignition" thingy do? Is it good, bad, I dunno. Sorry, I have absolutely ZERO engine knowledge. I just know how to push the pedals and change the oil and plugs.
Just wondering what your findings mean. I do think I understand the lean thing though. So, when I'm at full throttle in an autoX in second gear, hitting the 6000+rpm range, I'm doing some damage that other cars don't see?
Any help for the ignorant like me appreciated!
Thanks guys.

i will get a fuel map graphed out.... it may not be until friday or saturday though.... but i will get one.....

This is great info mazdamp3_18!...What year did they switch to OBDII? What other egnine info can you get from this laptop/software setup? Can you monitor all aspects of the car under real time? How much is this OBDII setup and software not including a laptop (have company name?)...This is very cool!

You can view every thing that the computer in your car views and monitors and regulates.... in other words you can see what every sensor in your car is reading... but you cant modify it....
the best one out is from www.obd-2.com the website expains everything... it is very informative... it costs $122 for the wiring and the software....then the only thing you need is a laptop....
im going to order the wiring tomorrow and then im gonna go look at used laptops and probably buy one this week..... then i am gonna start saving for a stand alone engine management system... YEAY!!!!:D

Ok im getting a Fuel Map made for the MP3... do you guys want O2 sensor voltage? what kind of read out do you want?
i will have this this week so let me know...

Chris

So I'm a little confused...if you want stand alone then you also need to have a laptop to hook up to it for tuning or is that just something that would make it easier?

i believe you do need a laptop to use a stand alone... i think they require a pentium 3 also... im not gonna get that expensive of a laptop... im just getting a used laptop for my obd 2... i have a feeling once i get my cams and a header im gonna start throwing codes...

Stand alone engine management...

There are two ways to deal with a stand alone engine management set up. Electormotive (makers of TEC I, TEC II and now TEC III among other products) you have to have a laptop to set up the system. The laptop displays everything and when you get the right set-up, you download that to the new computer in the car. And you are set.

You don't need a Pentium 3 to run the software, you need a laptop that can run the software. Go to http://www.emi.cc/. They should have the software requirements there.

Another way that stand alone management can be programmed is with a hand held device (an LCD display with buttons) that is sold with the system. SDS works this way. It works the same way as the TEC II, just not as "display eye candyish" as the Electromotive system. This is part of the reason why SDS is a litte cheaper, you don't have to pay for software licensing agreements becuase it's already in the box.
