Test Drive & Purchases...

I had no problems getting a test drive, and paid MSRP less $1000.
^^ +1

I emailed a dealership about a test drive, got a phone call by the top seller. He said he was the only one who could take me for a test drive, and I believed him. I also got mine $1000 under MSRP when I had heard that people were generally paying 1-3k over.

BTW, if anyone is in the MD, DC, VA area and willing to drive to Vienna VA, Mohamed Wadood is THE MAN. Rosenthal Nissan Mazda. Dude seriously has employee of the year every month for YEARS running. Also for financing worked to what I needed. PM me if anyone is gonna see him. I'll tell him you're coming ;)

I went to the same dealer as Yoo Shin and also, had no problem getting a test drive at all, plus the salesman I'm dealing with seems like a really cool guy. He kept telling me to take the corners as aggressively as I wanted, which of course, I did :D. I came away very impressed by the vehicle and if all goes well, I'll be picking up the CWP GT they have coming in, in a few weeks.

yea, im in the market for a hot hatch and went to a mazda dealer on sunday. it was rainy, the ms3 they had was almost out of gas, and the dealership closed in a half hour, but they still let me take it out for a spin, and the guy didnt care if i drove it hard either. we made a turn and he said "you can let her go and really check out the torque right here... i'd just slow down before you get to that school."needless to say, i was pretty damn impressed by the dealership and the car.

went to a dodge dealer today and couldn't get a ride in a CSRT4 cuz the only 2 on the lot both had been bought. got to sit in it tho, and the ms3 seats and overall ergonomics beat it by a mile.

i bought my sport 3 weeks ago. i paid 21200+feesandtaxes. i emailed all the dealers in my area, telling them i wanted a metrogray car, and to give me the best price. only one dealer sent the above price. they put some gas in it, and let me drive around. i took my wife to lunch, and "pretended" it was mine. i let the lady drive it some, she loved it. i took it back, and told them to wash it, fill her up, and i will pick it up the next day. easiest car purchase ever. the next day was funny. i showed up to pick up the car and the salesperson forgot everything. who i was, what i bought...everything. in his defense he was about 70 years old. great car. but i understand the reluctance to let people test drive. we are car freaks. do you want to know some squid romped on your car, when it was 5 miles old? no.

today i went 2 another dealership, told them about the other prices I got on GT's and they said the best they would be able to do is invoice, so needless to say I walked. seems as though my best offer yet is 22,300.

has anyone purchased an 08.5 GT for less than 22,300?

I went with my wife when I bought mine and we weren't even looking to buy that day. The salesman basically forced us to take a test drive. LOL. And this thing was so fresh off the truck, it didn't even have the shift knob installed yet. But this was back in Sept 07 and MSRP was what they were selling for around me. Regardless, I don't regret buying.

Dude, I'm just flabbergasted that any dealer would give a GT away for $1,000 under invoice.* They're losing money on that car and I'm not so sure the market on this car is at the point where they need to get them off the lots and lose money.* If it were next November and they still had a ton on the lots, it'd be a different story.* Invoice is $22,590 plus destination according to Edmunds and from what I've seen, dealer invoice is always a few hundred bucks more than what Edmunds says it is. Edmunds invoice is $23,240 with destination charge.

I bought a CWP GT yesterday for $23,652, plus title, tax and fees. MSRP was $24,890. Out the door was $25,577.14. I also got free oil changes for as long as I own the car. Oh and I had absolutely no problem taking a test drive. The salesman even offered before I asked. He just took a copy of my license.

They did a credit check while you were driving.
Wouldn't have really mattered either way, as I paid cash. But, I do my own credit checks every year and if I see that there was a check done by the dealer, I will make sure I call and b**** them out for doing a credit check on me without asking me first. :)

yeah, I'm not quite sure how reliable that 22,300 price is b/c the internet salesperson @ the dealership that quoted me @ that price has been MIA for the past several days and when I asked him to e-mail me a break down of the fees (to see if thered b any BS dealership fees to jack up the price) he never did that......

yea, I gotta ask....when people are stating '1000 below invoice' do you really mean invoice or do you mean below msrp? theres a major difference there....I dont think the dealorship is going to sell a GT for ~2100

I gotta agree with frequentflyer here

I don't know. Unless they aren't adding destination to it, which is $650, but even then, you'd be getting a GT for $22,950, which is still $400-500 under invoice. Now the dealer gets a 2% holdback based off of MSRP (less destination), so that's about $450. A high volume dealer, like Wayne Mazda (NJ) is more interested in moving lots of cars vs sticking to their guns and trying to get the most profit possible. They get bonuses for selling X amount of cars. The more cars they sell, the more bonuses they get. I still can't imagine them taking that much of a hit on a car without some sort of manufacturer's incentives (like they did for the MS6's).

I think there is sufficient information on the license to get a credit check, dont think they always need a ssn

I have seen several invoices from dealerships in NY, and on their invoice they include the destination charge and there is a NYS assessment which makes the price that dealerships pay for GTs to be around 23,500.
