Tech Night/Day requests.

its here!!!! finally. when do you guys wanna do this bad boy. iam good for saturday night after lets say 7ish or sunday morning. i beleive you said it would take some time to do steve? 3-5 hours? what time is your race on sat.? what time? maybe i can come and record your race for you. i just have to go to my moms from 4 to about 7 for her birthday. just let me know. and this time i wanna help with rjs and not show up right as you guys finish. lol

the mod bug is sure strong right now!!!!

jk sunday wont be good. lol. just looked at the schedule and we will be racing sunday. so how does saturday night sound?

sorry off topic- becca will most likely be bringing the bar with me on sat. so if you need anything in her car for sunday bring it saturday. that is of course its a go for saturday. pm with what you guys want for the cooler too. i think everyone was more about the water then anything else. also chips, pb and j, etc. just let me know. i might just bring those pb and j things steve has. those things rock!!

steve it looks like you got yourself a pit crew... chris and i are down to pit for ya!

gosh... i would love to say sat night for the rollbar.... but it could possibly take 6 hours depending on what's going on, and there will be lots of loud noise with the drilling and cutting that unfortunatly the rents wouldn't enjoy too much lol and it sucks that you can't be around from 4-7 because i'll be home from the kart track before 3pm if we got a jump on it then we could finish it in no time, what we could do is prep your car for the rollbar, and then install it next weekend, assuming you can deal with no amps, missing some interior carpet, some plastic pieces missing and such. prepping the car properly could save about 45min of work when it comes down to the cutting and such lol

so sat night we can do :

- RJ's hood struts
- Prep Kyle's car for the rollbar
- ???

new threads will be posted for the tech day on sat and the kart thing on sat lol just to not get this one too outta control ;)

hey guys, im planning to get power slot front brakes... anyone down for a tech night this fri or sat ?

doing brake lines too? or just the rotors? and I do hope you're throwing some stickier pads at it too?

remember if you do lines, get plenty of good new fluid, as you'll have to flush the lines anyways, may as well get the good stuff :)

oh, speaking of brakes... repainted my calipers this weekend:

im thinking just the rotors. it may just be an alignment problem but when i brake at speeds over 80 the steering wheel wobbles. i checked around on the mx-6 forum and it looks like a majority of the people that had that problem had warped rotors. im gonna do an alignment tomorrow and see what happens. rick, would i have to do the lines with the rotors ? my pads are relatively new so i might not change them.

btw, nice paint job on the calipers... what do you use ? high heat paint ?

shuddering when braking can indeed indicate warped rotors... but generally you should get some shuddering at lower speeds, too...

and, no you don't have to do lines when you do rotors, its just convenient to do them at the same time since you have everything apart anyways... and steel-braided brake lines are happyness-braided brake lines

as far as the paint... the first time they were painted, it was just some el-cheapo red stuff in a rattle can from lowes... (in the pics you can tell kinda they used to be red, but faded bad ehe)

this time it was some stuff thats supposedly meant for painting brakes... i think my dad found it at either pep boys or autozone... its a bit expensive, but has done 2 cars w/real thick coats and barely used like a quarter of the tiny can of paint... if i remember later this week when i'm at my dad's shop i'll see if i can't get the brand name of the stuff

good point... it does shudder at lower speeds but not as often. i want to do the lines as well but i don't think they'll be in before sat. and im not sure if it's legal for STS (i dont wanna run against gutted turbo lsd monsters like RJ :D) i hope it is just the rotors but the alignment job/check will determine that.

for the paint, did you take off the old paint or just coat right over it ?

I'm pretty sure braided lines won't be legal in sts (since technically they're not street legal)

but, powerslots wont be legal in STS either. (heck, I think good brake pads may not be allowed... dont quote me on that...) But, you wont be moved to SM (like rj.. he's in SM cos of his carbon fiber hood... but if he pays attention to his class, trying to get points, he may learn to drive better faster than any of us, ehe...)... just figure out what "street prepared" class your car will fit. both lines and slotted rotors are allowed in SP... also, you can run R-compound tires and wider/taller than stock wheels. And do springs/struts... and a myriad of other cheaper chassis stiffening/enhancing mods.

Most people stay away for "Street prepared" cos they read about the beatings they take in other regions...

In vegas, seems everyone goes STS so they can lose to Dave H... while the street prepared classes aren't very heavily populated...

*I* took first in class at Nellis in CSP... I'm slow.

As far as painting...

first time, used some brake kleen, and then sanded the piss out of the calipers...

this new coat... carwash first... then sprayed with brake kleen to clean it up, gave it time to dry, then just painted.

Just a heads up...

I *might* need some help installing my J-spec headlights sometime next month, after i take care of the EGR and motor mounts. My "halo" lights are discoloring so i thought it's a great time to put the projectors on. I pretty much know what has to be done, it's just a matter of doing them:

Dremel radiator supports to fit projector housing
Widen turn signal pods to fit stock 1157 bulbs
Fit custom bracket for central mounts (i'll have the brackets by the install)
Cut off wire harness from my halo headlights and wire them to the J-specs

pizza and beer, as well as any dremel heads needed will be provided.

if i could be i'd be iron chef dremmel! ;) hehe

i can bring the dremmel if you have the proper wheels ;)

sweet ! ill look into the wheels i'm gonna need. There's a write up on MX6 land

so i've gathered together the brackets i need to mount the headlights, i just need to mount them and hack my halos (for a needed wiring harness and turn signal pod) and cut into the radiator support. anyone down for a tech night next saturday afternoon/nite or sunday afternoon ? steve, i went to get cutting wheels but im not sure if ur dremel is an ez-lock or not. also, aleksandar needs to put his pulley on so maybe we can kill two birds with one stone... steve lemme know if ur free then. thanx ! :D
