Target Sucks!!

Did anyone else here that Target has banned all Salvation Army bell ringers from there stores. I personally think that this is just wrong around the Holiday season. This is the one time of year that the Salvation army really pushes to make some cash for needy families and then they get banned. Screw Target!!!

I heard somwhere that a couple of the bell ringers harrassed some customers. Target gave them specific guidlines and they broke them i will lok for the article.

Actually it wasn't a "oh lets ban them", Target has a no solicating rule on their grounds. Therefore they aren't allow to setup in front of the store. Most places have rules like this, in fact I don't see many of them anymore. Giant supermarkets and the mall are the only place I have seen them this year. Heck even the Walmarts here haven't had them out yet. And some of them are rude, do not say thank you, or really look happy.
But it wasn't a full lets just no do it move, there were more reasons behind it.
And who honestly gives to them everytime they are there? When I actually have money on me I will give. Plus with people using credit cards more and more they seem to rarely have small bills on them or welling to give them up.
Overall the amount of donations they have been getting has dropped I believe, or was mention somewhere. They still pull in a good amount but it seems like people are giving less.

Personally I find it annoying when some, not all, bell ringers ask you for money when you are already down because you are strapped for cash on the holidays. The Salvation Army is a good charity though! There are some that are terrible like Highway Trooper Associations only give a small, small percentage of donations to state troopers while they pocket the rest. Those organizations should be banned!

I know what you mean...But as long as they're told to only stand there , sing and not bug people, there shouldn't be ny problem.

Good for target

Because some people don't like it, and I'm one of them. Some of them get a bit to proactive in seeking donations. If also don't like the people hanging out at intersections. Sometimes they're thick as flies, and just as pesky.

Now I don't mind the concept of it and I often give my kids change or a buck to put in when we can afford it. I've also spent a few holidays serving food at shelters, and I'll give to the Scouts in front of the grocery stores since the headquarters now gives up to 70 percent of the money back to the local troup. The last few years it's just seem to have gotten out of hand. Half the time it's some group you never heard of and it's more likely that somebody printed up t-shirts and got a handful of people to prowl a busy corner to rake in a couple hundred dollars during a rush hour.

yeah, Target has a no solisitation ban for anyone, like GirlScouts, etc. In the past they have made exceptions for the SA, but decided to no longer make the exception.

All of my donation have been thru the mail, web etc. I'm one of those people that hardly ever carries cash, so i never give to the bell ringers anyways... but they do collect millions in past years at Target. it will make a difference this year..

Yeah I don't see a problem with Target enforcing their no-solicitation policy. After all, it IS private property.

And I have been harassed by Salvation Army people as well.

I have a few dollars taken out of each paycheck that go to various charities of my choice. Only $5 a paycheck right now, yeah it's not much but it does help. So I rarely will drop loose change or singles into donations buckets at intersections, in front of stores, etc...the main exception being volunteer first aid squads and fire companies. But I have been harassed by people in front of stores and in the mall when I was holiday shopping....they yell things like 'oh you can spend hundreds of dollars on your family and friends but you can't spare a single cent to give to charity?'

I agree that I don't like being harrased by people. But I have never been harrased by a salvation army bell ringer. Seeing how it is a christian based organization I don't agree with someone yelling comments or even mudering them under their breath. Even if it wasn't a christian organization I would still expect not to be harrased. I also understand that Target is just enforcing a policy but they have over looked the policy for the past 10 years. Now that other organizations are starting to inquire they decided to enforce it. It is like leting your child eat candy for dinner all of his life and then one day saying that he or she can't do it anymore because someone elses child caught on and there parent complained. (I don't know who would let there child do that but the example worked)

nowhere in that article did it mention harrassment. They have a "no solicitiation policy" that they bypassed for the SA. Only when other non-profit orginazations started pressuring them did they feel they had to do the right thing and be fair to everyone.

Target even specifically says. Feel free to apply for a grant as opposed to standing outside. It also states that Target gives away $2Million EVERY WEEK to local schools across the country.

Did anyone else actually read the whole article?? SA made about $9Million a YEAR from ringing outside of the Target stores alone....that's insane. The SA should be very grateful for Target's help even though they wont get it in the same manner this year.

If I give you $9 Million one year and $0 the next year you're going to talk bad about me???

Yep read it afterward, didn't think they made that much which is impressive. The article does explain it nicely, but now people are simply expressing what they have incountered.
Never realized that Walmart only allowed them there for a brief time, which probably explains why I haven't seen them.

Plus the SA doesn't sound upset, it is mostly just customers that are.

Btw give me 9 million this year and none next year and I'll tell you what I think....from my own private island :)

Just because you haven't been harassed doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. Look at my story, as well as what others have said. Seems to happen fairly often. But that's besides the point.

Your analogy is flawed. They made an exception for SA which they have now revoked to be fair to EVERYONE. Why should SA be granted special access, and other charities are not? They were doing them a personal favor, and can no longer do so. That's it.

I agree 100%.

All I was simply saying is that it sucks that target is now enforcing a rule that they had overlooked or made acception to for so long. As far as harrasment goes I never said it dosn't exist I just said that it shouldn't because it is a choice to give or not to give, and I was just stateing that I personally have never been harrased. I think that it is great that Target gives to the community like it says in the artical and the fact that they are still allowing grants and such is commendable. I just think that the bell ringers should be allowed at the store front on an individual store basis. I know around here Target always has someone or some organization in front of it soliciting especially in the summer time when the weather is nice. It is usually a boy scout troop or a girl scout troop. So those stores obviously go against there own company policy or managment really dosn't care. When ever you make a change in or begin enforceing policy people always have differing opinion. My opinion stands that the bell ringers should be allowed at the store fronts.
