Talk to me about HD Radio...

I've been hearing a lot about HD Radio programming...but know nothing about the equipment...

I've had XM radio since the first time it aired; in my old car. But since I got my MS3, I opted not to get it again. Programming has changed and they've added tons of annoying commercials...when its supposed to me commercial free...

Anyway, I thought I might want to give this HD Radio a try.

Questions:

Do you need to replace your head unit to get HD programming?
Can you use the factory head unit and simply just add a tuner and connect it to the SAT input in the back of the factory radio?
What kind of antenna does HD Radio have?

Thanks, thats all for now...:)

I have it built in my Radio, it's really good, but only if you live near some radio towers, and from what I hear, you can add it to any factory radio, and it uses your regular antenna, it probably taps in like a wired FM transmitter for the add on tuners.

BUT the currently HD radio is not a sat radio replacement in my opinion.

HD radio is weak. In my area, all it does is add some Spanish Language stations and "Lifestyle" (read Gay/Lesbain Programing) stations. XM is meh. I had Sirius installed in my last car, and loved it. It has better programing aimed at slightly younger listeners (20-30 age range), and you only get commercials in the stations that broadcast on both Sirius and regular (like talk radio and sports stations). I would only fork out for the HD radio if you are in love with your local stations.

The only reason I didn't re-up my subscription and get it running in my Speed3 is becuase now I have an Aux jack for my iPod.
