Talk me out of it...

I'm surprised it's "only" $36K. I would have expected a good bit north of $40K until the novelty wears off a bit. The SRT Challengers are in the $50K range at many dealers and the sticker on those is usually in the mid 40s.

Did you perchance try the V6?

I didn't try the V6. They look just as good as the GT, but (at least on paper) their performance is just about the same as the MS3. If I didn't already have the MS3, I may have tried it.

Well...I drove the Mustang on Saturday.

It doesn't take turns as nicely as the Speed, but it's still plenty of fun. And...HOLY CRAP IT'S FAST!

I may get one at some point, but they have 0 deals going on right now. Leasing the car is more expensive than financing, which is ridiculous. Also, the one I would want is about $36,000 and I cannot justify that kind of price for a Mustang right now...I'll probably wait a year or two when they have realistic pricing.

As for now, I'm going to stick with my MS3, add the Mazdaspeed CAI, turbo inlet, and do something with my exhaust.

Thank you for all the input!

I too can't justify spending $36k on a Mustang. If we were talking about an TL Type S or Audi S4 i could relate. Other than that, good luck! Hopefully in a year or two the price should come down, and I'm sure it will eventually.

You'll love you're MS3 even more when you start modding it. Intake, Turbo inlet pipe, and 3" Down pipe. You will feel a big power difference

It may have been said before, but I don't feel like reading 6 pages....

RWD FTW

? ? ? What is the point of this post? Only read short threads? Want everyone else to do the reading for you and then summarize it at the bottom of each page? Reading challenged? Disinterested -- If so, then why jump into the thread? How many pages are too many? Just curious.

Some discussions, such as the subject of this thread, are going to be long. OP wanted someone to talk him out of purchasing a 2011 Mustang GT. There are enough reasons, pro and con, together with a side track discussion of strength of the bottom end of the MS3's engine, that this discussion might go on for a bit.

The way the economy is going, some overzealous buyer will bite off more than he can chew and be forced to sell his nearly-new GT at a cutthroat price. Just wait for the flood of low-mileage 5.0s to hit the market, and it'll be like your very own Mecum barn find... without the trophy wife and wheelbarrow of Viagra.

I would say go with the stang 5.0 if you want a RWD platform and don't plan on modding it.

The MS3 biggest limit is its FWD setup as far as what to do with all the power it can make modded on the low end. It's fine on the highway though.

If you plan on modding, I'd recommend to spend the $35k - $39k (which is what it'll probably cost realistically) on a new EVO X or 2010 STI and work off of those platforms.

Personally I'd like to get my hands on a Supra MKIV for my RWD toy.

Evo X for the win.

It's easy to make power, it outhandles both the MS3 and the mustang, and it's AWD to boot. Moreover, the engines are both stronger and way more mod friendly than the EJ25 in the STi.

If your looking for cheap speed. Why not just pick up a Honda Shell and swap a B18B LS motor into it. You can have a nice Semi-built Nitrous Honda for less than 3-4K in mods. That's what my buddy did! He ran consistent mid 12's on Nitrous. He also has a Daily driven 12sec 95 Mustang 5.0

He went with a:
1996 Civic Coupe DX Shell, Fully gutted to the driver seat picked up for $350
1995 B18B LS Motor Picked up for $500
B16 tranny $750

As far as his parts were: "Everything was fairly used already"
Intake $30
Header $150
Exhaust $200
Brian Crower Cams and Cam gears $350
Titanium Valve springs & Retainers $300
Hondata S200 $200
Lightweight clutch & Flywheel $400
Zex wet kit 65shot Nitrous $275
2 front Falken Azenis RT-615's $150

Think he said he dynoed on a Dynojet around 150-160whp off Nitrous and on Nitrous around 190-200whp. Civic Coupe only weighed 1700lbs
He ran 13.1-13.3@102-104mph off Nitrous. On Nitrous he ran 12.5-12.6's@109-110mph

Thus this is what I'm looking into doing soon. (cabpatch)

Tell Mitsu to sell an Evo X MR Sportback with a 6-speed stick and then show me where to sign.

(yes)

But the complaints of rattles concerns me as it drives me crazy in my car, and the MS3 to Evo converts say its worse...
