Synthetic Oil

Mazda's FAQ on Synthetic Oil:

Can I use synthetic oil in the engine of my Mazda vehicle?

Mazda has not done any testing related to the use of synthetic oils and therefore does not recommend the use of these products. However, using this type of product does not, in itself, affect the warranty on your Mazda. As Mazda vehicles are not designed with the use of synthetic oil in mind, any negative impact on the vehicle as a result of using synthetic oil will not be covered by warranty.

So Mazda recommends that you don't use synthetic.
What are your experiences so far if you are using sync with your MSP?
Any noticeable differences in engine smoothness and power?
Any gas mileage improvement?

Thanks.

I know you asked about the MSP's, but I noticed a good increase in gas mileage... Mobil 1 :D

Smoother running, and a longer life for my baby. There is no harm in using syn in your Mazda.

I switched over to Mobil 1 at 2,000 miles.

....It seems from time to time on the forum; someone will mention, it is best 'not' to use Mobil 1 or other synthetics in their MAZDASPEEDs. That 'synthetic oils' are not good for these turbos, etc... But everyone I have talked to highly recommends using Mobil 1, or another quality synthetic.

its not a good idea to switch back from syn to normal oil. just keep that in mind. good rule of thumb.

Synthetic motor oil should be fine in all Mazda Engines....especially turbocharged ones.

However, you never want to run Synthetic in a rotary engine. Rotary engines have metering oil pumps to lubricate and cool the seals inside the motor, and this oil is burned during the process. Synthetic will cause excess sludge in a rotary when it burns.

synthetic oil is usually about $40-50 at valvoline oil change (normal oil $20-$25) with the oil change. at a local store, expect to pay triple for synthetic oil.

Not all of Mazda's engines are allowed to use synthetic oil. Rotary where ash content is very important of the oil because it injects oil in the combustion chamber. Back to topic. Use Mobil 1 you will love it. just don't use it fromt he get go. Go through 2-3 normal dino juice oil changes then switch to synthetic. Don't break an engine in with synthetic oils. It's perfectly fine as of now to have some dino juice with synthetic and vice versa. People say once you go synthetic don't go back. Synthetic will make leaks appear where there were none with regular dino juice(happened to me).

M1 baby!

Mobil 1 onboard@ 2418miles with a high quality WIX filter.
According to WIX's literature their filters are good for more miles than a stock filter and have better filtration. Supposedly more surface area within the filter and better materials for the filtration media. Either way it seems to fit and it does not leak. I only hand tightened it and the stock filter came off by hand as well.
Man those filters are so TINY......
When I saw the WIX I said, "Damn that cant be it."
It's too small but nope it was just as big as the stock filter.
Looks like a filter off a lawn tractor.
It's like a really corpulent thimble.

i have used mobil 1 since the 3rd oil change, and like it. i recently purchased some redline 5w-30 which i plan on using once i get my turbo.

Okay. I had to quit laughing first.

"Corpulent thimble."

Dan, thanks for the info. I was not aware of the rotary issue. However I thought Mobil 1 and other higher quality synthetics had a lower ash and carbon #'s (Street King also agreed with you) than dinos. If you could throw some info my way, that would be fantastic.
Thanks!

My buddy has approximately 80,000 miles on his Audi S4 pumping just under 500hp and has not had a single problem with Mobile1 Syn. He has been using it since his first oil change. Not a single engine problem.
