swapping turbo ms3 motors

Has anyone successfully swapped the 2.3 turbo motor and trans into a 06 or older ms3 that was N/A from the factory?

I was going to just buy a bolt on turbo kit and then read about the DSI motor and it seems retarded to not swap and get more power, a 6 speed trans, and a MUCH better designed motor that is capable of a larger amount of boost.

Why not sell/trade in your mazda3 and buy a speed3? You're almost guaranteed to save money and a huge headache.

+1 to that

you'd be a damn fool to try otherwise.

besides, the MS3 has so much more to offer besides the turbo and 6spd. You get the larger brakes, stiffer suspension, tuned exhaust, etc.

I thought they just came out in 2007? Or am I a little behind? =x

i guess if you could find the engine at a ridiculously low price, it would be worth it. but, given that these are brand new, limited production cars, their engines and trannies are probably way expensive.

I purchased my Mazda 3 cash 8 months ago for a 2006 model and the trade in value is not substantial to cover the amount i paid, 19000-15000.

I don't feel like losing 4k on a trade and then having to pay ANOTHER 5k more for a ms3. In case people here are bad at math, thats about 9k out of pocket.

Plus, I already have a set of Baer oversized brakes installed, aftermarket wheels and tires. A set of coil overs. Aftermarket exhaust, my custom stereo and leather interior that I would be losing as well.

The only way I could recoup my losses on these items is to sell the car to a private party, but alas, I am quite lazy.

i heard soem guy in houston did this

I looked at those kits. Pretty decent price but I would honestly rather spend a little more for an engine that is using direct injection as opposed to fuel injection. Also, from my understanding, the DSI motor is running forged internals and a balanced crank that is secured with a cradle to prevent side to side shifting.

If you don't want to put in the effort to do a private party sale, and are squeamish about $9k, you should really reconsider doing a swap. After engine, transmission, intercooler/piping, and ECU you'd probably be in the $9k zone for parts alone, and that's before the labor headache.

he'll have to figure out how to make the fuel system work too... direct injection cars are a lot different than indirect injection cars... he'll have to **** with the fuel pump, fuel lines, and making s*** handle 27000+ psi of fuel pressure

the electrical part itself is going to cause anyone tons of agony... these new cars have the CAN system and they're very finicky if you **** with them!
let's not forget that the ECU alone is "married" to a specific car

yeah, reading up further it does not seem feasible to make these changes. Guess I am going to just have to lose my ass and trade the damn thing in.

you'd be far better off, just like others said, you'll be in for FAR more than $9k after all the custom parts and labor are included.

Engine swaps these days aren't like back in 1993...

Most swaps are still feasible for the companies that have not really changed through the years (ie. Honda/Acura) as well as some of the Toyota Motor cars as well.

plus, the ms3 engine bay is diffrent. The firewall was moved back ot keep the turbo down low, the back of the dash was changed to do this, ables and hubs are diffrent, the body is stiffer.

sway bars are bigger, body stiffnes is improved and many more other goodies... trade it in. best choice IMO. If your mods are done right, you wont have hard time selling it...

good luck (rockon)

another thing that no one else has mentioned yet (as if you need more reasons why not to) is there are equal length halfshafts on the front axle to help keep all that power at the wheels instead of hopping all over the place.
