Swapping P5 ECU with MP3(turbo) ECU

I might be interested in a trade for a MP3 ECU, im still deciding to stay NA or go FI on my 02 MP5.

Got back to my master tech at the dealer, no news yet. Possibly monday. Good news tough, he received the mazda memo on the differences on the MSP ECU and the protege's ECU. I'll fill me in next tiem I see him...

Let's work something out. I live in DeKalb and have a turbo'd MP3.

I think we can answer this question right away. Can't be more than an hour apart I'd guess.

I still haven't got a clear answer on this yet. I've got an 03 Automatic P5, and would love to have an MP3 ECU. From what I can tell, the ECU has the capability to run either a 5 spd manual, and automatic. If this be the case, I'll swap my ECU with a fellow MP3'r.

I'm in Westerville, OH. This is my only car, so downtime is not an option. I'm going to Carlisle (PA) Sport Compact Nats in May if anyone else is going....

How difficult is it to change the ECU?

Its easy. The ecu is under a plate underneath the passenger sides carpet. You will need a wrench with a 10mm long socket. You need the long socket.

PS - AFAIK, there are no differences between the MP3/P5 ECU's other than timing / VTCS. All other aspects are identical from what I've been told. I'm also researching to see if Mazda can re-flash the P5 ECU with MP3 advanced timing maps. Might need an MP3 VIN to do so. If I find this can be done, I'll need one of you MP3r's to "lend" me a VIN. This of course, would be through private email. And if it works, I'll make sure to give you something for the trouble in return.

Yes, they can be flashed. As to the MP3 timing flash, I'll let you all know.

That's a big assumption...trust me ;P


He would know who to ask to get it done (namely his employees), but he would look at me with the initial question and ask why I want to void my warranty (I know, it doesn't, but that's his process).
