I am having an issues with the suspension in the front. it sound at low speeds like my strut mounts are shot? I got 2011 touring with 14500k miles.

I think I'm having that same sound. It's like a really deep rattle. I don't know how else to describe it. It sound bad though.

its weird, is more like the struts would be loose, and does it over hard bumps as it feels to bounce around, and at really slow speeds like a trepidations

I have the same problem. Sounds like loose springs or broken strut mounts. I've had it since new (10 miles), brought it to the dealer, they told me it was normal. If so, that's some crappy engineering.

mine said is not normal, but they do not want to poke around and mess more things around, and said to watch for it if it gets more weird

Has anyone actually looked to see if anything is loose? The front suspension is pretty simple and there aren't a lot of bolts holding the components together.

At the top of each strut there are three nuts holding the strut to the body. At the bottom of each strut there are two large bolts/nuts holding the bottom of the shock/strut to the spindle. If you are getting a noise going around corners that is where I would start looking for loose fasteners.

Sounds like your dealers really, really are less than competent.

I've take a good look at it, torqued all bolts, and looked for anything obviously broken. It's all good.
So, I'm thinking its either the springs rattling around, or the upper strut mount. I'll be upgrading to H&R coilovers soon, so if it's still there, I'll be sure its the upper strut mount.

Not much up there.

Could it be a loose hood if the rubber bushes don't hold it under tension?

i think we have the same problem here in the philippines.its more noticeable here as our roads are pretty crappy. mazda philippines have identified it to be the rack and pinion. we call it "dugudug" sound or excessive thudding sounds.

oh really?? ok never thought of that. can you elaborate on it? what exact in the rack is making that metal on metal noise?

It's funny that you say that. I was driving through a pretty rough parking lot recently when my car started making the "dugudug" sound, and I thought to myself that it sounds like the suspension, but it feels like it's coming in through the steering column. I'd like to hear someone from Japan chime in and say that it's been going on since 2008. That way we can chock it up to "business as usual" and move on.

Or, is it the rack rattling in its mounting bushings or hitting up against the subframe its bolted to?

not really sure. mazda just mentioned that's where the noise is coming from. afaik, they have already reported this to mazda japan but was given a reply that there is nothing wrong with the RnP. sucks.

had a 3rd party workshop check it and they also said it comes from the RnP. they didnt want to touch it further as it may void the warranty.

that's exactly the sound. it's emanated through the steering wheel. sounds like a big loose bolt left inside the dash. lol

afaik, fomoco also has the same problem with the fiesta. both the 2 and fiesta will receive "upgraded/improved" RnPs in September. this i have to confirm though.

amazing... that does sound like it... and my 2008 euro model does the same, but my dad had his tie rod on the right side changed. and it still does it... will they fix it if they know wha the problem is?

I took apart part of my front suspension this weekend to see what exactly is the noise. Looks like the steering rack itself is the culprit. Please keep me updated on any recalls or fixes!!
By the way, if you hit the steering rack with a hammer, you can recreate your metal on metal knocking noise without any effort.

I don't have this noise yet, my car only has 1600 km's on it. But I am wondering if anyone is getting this noise with a STOCK setup. I don't know everyones car who has this problem, but it seems like some of you have either lowered their car, or changed out the wheel/tire combo for something more aggressive.

Do you think these mods could be the culprit? Added forces to an otherwise weak link?
