Survey: Dunlop Tire Wear

i too just had the same prodlem inside 2 inches worn deep on the fronts and the rest of the tire was fine. my back also had the problem problally cause i rotate them at oilchanges. i am still arguing with mazda about this. i took my car to NTB and they said my car is set to a protege allingment specs. he said they are probably different then the mp3 which i also heard before from my dealer when i complained about my car pulling to the right. the manager at ntb called dunlop and they gave me 50% off new SP9000. just because they like their customers to be happy. so all in all it cost me 500$ for all new SP9000 and labor. Im happy i got new tires. but im not letting mazda get away with this one. my tires only had 15000 miles on them. i drive hard but i rotate them frequently and the fact that the rest of the tire was fine means their is definitly a camber problem. i personally think my dealer was setting it to the wrong specs. i wrote a post about this 1 month ago when i was experiencing the prob.
WHY WONT MAZDA FIX OUR CARS!!! every problem ive had from the begining i still have. Tranny(fixed twice still grinding, Squeek & Clunking still when cold, pulls to the right, now this tire problem):bs:

I have been though 5 sets of tires the original dulops another set of them a set of 205 40 yokahoma priadas 215 40 spec 2 priadas and some kumo 205 40 i think it all has to do with how often you rotate and how fast you hang the curves 80 a normal driving speed for my car

im just gettin to 10,000k miles and i havent rotated yet i guess i should i have been thinking about saving up some case and buying some Light weigh Volk wheels and putting some yoko's paradas spec2 on my car and just puting them heavy ass "racing" harts in my basement

Damn 5 sets man. WOW, you may hold the record for quickest worn tires

YEA I DONT KNOW WHATS UP WELL I GUESS I DO I SHOULD OBEY LOCAL SPEED LIMIT LAWS. OH YEA DID YOU KNOW THE DUNLOPS ARE RUN FLATS I FOUND THAT OUT AFTER I HAD A SMALL BLOWOUT ON MY RIGHT REAR TIRE I GUESS YOU SOULD BUY NEW TIRES AFTER YOU SEE STEEL SHOWING I THINK I COULD WEAR OUT ANY TIRE YOU CAN SEND MY WAY. SO FAR I LIKE THE KUMHOS

Not sure which Dunlops you got on your MP3, but I can guarantee you that the SP Sport 9000s are NOT run-flats. A run flat would have nowhere near the performance these have, and would weigh a ton more.
Not trying to flame, just wondering which tires you got..

yep, stocks are not runflats...they do make sumitomo runflats for the 17" mp3 rims.

My SP5000's on my ES lasted for 30K miles. The outside edges were worn down significantly more than the middle, even with rotation every 5000 miles and correct air pressures. When I had my new tires (Kumho 712's) put on, my alignment was perfect except for the right rear. But then again, I love to take the corners fast, so that is probably a big contributer to why the edges wore down so quickly. My second gen RX7 would get similar mileage off the tires and the edges were not worn too bad compared to the protege.

I just had to buy four new tires because I somehow managed to wear all four tires down to the core. Here's the story. In the middle of september I had a flat, so I went to NTB for them to fix it. I had just had my 30, 000 mile checkup days before, and I had rotated the tires but not had an alignment done. So, i told NTB to do an alignment. As always, they measured the tires tread depth for there paperwork-at least 5/32 all the way around. So, two days later, the tire is flat. I go back and they fix it again. This week I bring the car in for Mazda to look at the clunking, and as soon as they put it in the air, we all saw it, the inside edge of all four tires were worn down to the core. Litteraly, the front tires had the metal poking out. This is just barely 2k miles after I had the alignment checked. I hadn't hit anything or done anything to the car to mess up the alignment. So, I limp to the nearest tireshop and pick up some Yokohama's. I keep the worst tire and drive up north to the NTB where the had did the alingment. The manager told me to piss off, that I could have done that to my tire in that amount of time. Then he finds out that these are oe tires with 32k miles on them. He couldn't believe that these tires lasted me that long. He said he would talk to his store manager and see if He could grant my wish-reimburse me for the tires. So, I went and had an alignment done by my tech, all the tires where in the red.

mine is almost 15k miles now...i autocross and cut corners quiet often...rotate once at 6500 mile...not rotate at 13000 coz i want to put new tires on...MIT...heyhey...:D but i think SP9000s will last for another 3k...at least...

The result after I got it back from the dealer was a balancing and that's it...I asked about the alignment and whatnot, but whatever, it seems to feel a bit better though, less of a pull to the right. I'm crossing my fingers.

we got a knot in our tire in the first two months, no potholes or curbs, had a time trying to get warrantied, got jerk around, and had to pay out of our pockets, never again Dunlop, you burned me once.
