Sunroof doesn't open

Ok since I bought the car the sunroof never worked. It never really bothered me because I was always messing with something else on the car..motor mounts, stereo, etc. Well now nothing is wrong with my car but that and I'm bored so I'm going to fix it. I just wanted to know where to start. Basically it has no response to pressing the buttons. I couldn't find a fuse specific for the sunroof. Do sunroofs typically have a problem with wiring?

I guess check the connections for the switch. Make sure the connector is plugged in. If the connections are good, move on to the motor for the sunroof. Check the wires to see if they are connected and to see if its getting voltage.

I have a Webasto Sunroof and I had constant failures with it losing memory or not working at all for the first 8 months. It drove the installer crazy. He was calling the manufacturer and and doing everything he could think of. Finally, it turns out the hard suspension in our cars helps to dislodge the connector at the back of the sunroof. He had to modify it to make it somewhat permanent. I haven't had a problem since. PM me if you need to speak with him directly and I'll getcha the info. Good Luck(thumb)

I checked the connection and it was in. I took the small control box apart and than plugged it back in and noticed that the light's in the box came on but were very dimly lit. The sunroof does absolutely nothing when plugged in. I figured if the dim lights meant that it was getting some power it would atleast get the motor to make some noise, but no luck. Also, how rare are sunroofs on Mp3's? Thanks

how rare? very, there were NO Mp3s/MSPs with factory sunroofs

Nice. I always loved the MP3 because since I have bought mine I have only seen one with Virginia plates and I have never seen another Mp3 since. Being one of the few to have sunroofs is even better. Too bad the damn thing doesn't work. It's cold out anyway I just hate having things not work.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there were no MP3s with a sunroof out of the factory. You have an aftermarket sunroof. Good luck getting parts for it. I would say to 1st check all the electrical connections with a multimeter, and then see if the motor went bad if all else fails. None the less, good luck.

did you buy the mp3 from a private owner or a dealer. If from an owner, call him back and ask where he got it installed, so you at least have an idea what brand it was. From there, you can start figuring out what is the problem.
***off topic. I have heard aftermarket sunroofs are always a problem. And honestly, so far, it has been right. I am sorry that you have to deal with that. good luck****

It's a Webasto. I guess it's just going to be like the roof in the Maxima. It is now a skylight. I guess it's better than nothing.
