Suggestions???

Anyone have any suggestions as to some really good modifications that are really cheap? I want to start small with something like a tint ( I didn't get tint when I got the car, I think it looks much better with it) or maybe some rims, or maybe a sound system. Let me know what you think, the BIG part of it is CHEAP!

I'm all about cheap! :)

Oh...you said "cheap", not tacky! Oh, well...sorry. :D

I started a thread on this topic called "small things to customize our P5'S..." you can check that out, but here's a list anyway:

1. Smoke the rear and side marker lights (there's a special paint for this - ask your shop)
2. Change your headlights to hyper whites
3. Paint your calipers
4. Change your antenna - there's a guy selling them here for $22 dollars (thinking of getting one myself)
5. Change your shift knob
5. Change your pedals
6. Get a wider rear view mirror (the ones that fit over the existing ones)
7. Remove your roof racks
8. Tint your windows (getting pricier with this one) - I have the midnight blue P5 too and got the medium tint - looks soooo good!

Those are all the CHEAP mods I can think of right now - wheels and sound systems aren't, at least if you do them right they aren't.

good ideas... i like them. the calipers i have been thinking of doing but dont know what color would be best any help on that? I think it looks better with the roof rack, thats just my personal opinion though. the antenna is a little too long, try get a shorter one. my friends and i agreed about the pedals, so that may be first. but once again it comes to mom. she doesn't want me doing anything to it but fill it up, change oil and filters, and drive it, thats about it.

Alright MidnightP5... we have a little in common, here. We both have a Midnight Blue P5. We both want "mods" and are looking for inexpensive customization. I am having to do it that way because I'm on a pretty tight budget with a mortgage, car, utilities, blah, blah, blah. I started with the tint. I went out on a limb and got it darker than legal (13%) all the way around. It makes it look like a totally different car. If you have to go "legal" you will still be pleased. Painting your calipers is pretty cheap. I went with blue to try and stay with the same color scheme. As mentioned in another thread be sure you get a high heat tolerant paint like engine paint since the calipers get pretty hot. You don't need it bubbling and peeling a week after you take the time to paint them. Next, if you want a little more performance, put on a Cold Air Intake. If you do your home work you can find them for $225-$250. They are relatively easy to install as long as you take your time and follow the instructions. There are quite a few threads on this board regarding intakes. Your Mom never has to know unless she is out there changing the oil and pops the hood. It's a slow process but just keep looking and the prices will come down as more after market manufacturers start making products and they have to compete for your business. It will be well worth the wait. The only thing is once you start....you are never finished. There is always something else you want. That's what I have found anyway. Good Luck

ummmm...just a little thought...your mom won't notice the intake unless she's deff...considering that when the engine revs above 4k rpm the intake will start to roar...

I plan on painting my calipers this summer, when school is out. A friend of mine has a GTI and he painted his so he will help me. Still need a color though. How does the blue on blue look OurP5? Do you have any pics of it?

once again it comes to mom. she doesn't want me doing anything to it but fill it up, change oil and filters, and drive it, thats about it.

uhhhmmm ... whos car is it, yours or hers?

However, if you are 16-17, you better listen to her, and feel lucky you have a nice car to ride around in at your age. Don't go chopping "mom's" car up just cause you think you are gonna get attention and more pussy, it dosen't work.

sundevilMP5, I agree. When you rev the engine about 3500 to 4000 rpm's it does growl. My question is why would he get on it when mom's around anyway? Starting the car, backing out of the driveway, and heading out he wouldn't want to draw attention to himself with mom waving goodbye from the garage. If they are careful the intake is a very easy thing to hide. Jusst don't leave the factory airbox lying around in the garage and don't rev the engine when mom's around. :D
