Suggestions for replacing all speakers on the MSP.

Those Need A Good 150 Watts Of Very Clean Power To Sound Awesome. Any Less And Youre Gipping Them.

id suggest changing your 6x8s in the doors to 6.5" component speakers.
Some quick questions about this. Do 6.5" drivers fit in the front door without modifications? Are the stock components crossed over?

stock our cars have 6x8s in the front doors. to place a 6.5" in there you need to cut a peice of wood the same size as the stock 6x8 (use it as a template), drill the mounting holes, then using the new 6.5" as a template cut a hole and mounting points for that in the peice of wood. plywood works but mdf is a lot better about not distorting. as for cross overs im not quite sure. from what ive seen i believe they are not as the 6x8s have tweeters on them as well. they probably are just spliced in there somewhere which lowers the resistence to 2 ohms which is probably why our headunits like to go boom. a local audio shop should be able to put those speakers in for you for like a hour of labor.

There is a great how-to on puttings speakers in the front doors check out the how-to section. They used plexiglass to mount to. I think Crutchfield sells a plastic adapter for mounting 6.5's too. The tweeters are the same as other Protege models. They are Nakamichi tweets. The 6x8's are just normal off the shelf Kenwood's that are spliced to the tweets without a crossover. The worst part about putting speakers in the front doors is getting new speaker wire to them!

No one touches install work on my car unless it's a block, head, or full engine type job. I do everything myself, the way everyone should (rockon)

Thanks for the information guys. I don't have any saws, nor can I really use power tools at my apartment complex without pissing someone off. I'll probably just buy the adapters, wiring harness for a new headunit (got a JVC from my Lancer), and some mid-range drivers (CDT Audio). I have spare crossovers from an older Sony component set that should work, otherwise I'll buy some crossovers from the same company that makes the mid-range drivers.

NO, you cant but speakers from some company ive never heard of! you must buy diamond audio d6 series components! they are the s***! go buy them, NOW!! ebay is your friend! NOW GO!!!

LOL. CDT makes pretty high end speakers, and I can get a pretty good deal on a set of components they make. Speakers are not on the top of my list for mods though, just something I need to think about. Turkey kill, installing WBO2, and a boost gauge are the first priority. Well, getting the car is the first priority.
