Suggestions for reducing cabin noise

2007 MS3 GT
Since it's my nature to be picky about my new car, I'm noticing something that's pretty annoying about my MS3 - exhaust drone. I'm thinking a layer of dynomat is headed for my car in the near future. I was driving my wife and baby home last night and my wife asked my why the car was so loud. And she was right. The drone is worse than any car I've had. So, where would one put the dynamat? I'm assuming in the rear and doors? It doesn't affect me when I'm by myself and listening to music, but otherwise, for a long cruise with other people, it's wearing.

Another muffler perhaps?
Since I haven't driven the car yet, I'm curious how much noisier the MS3 will be compared to my RSX. I'm not a huge fan of droning noise myself - never understood those people who would add those fart cannons on the Civics without any other mods only because they enjoy(?) the noise. I saw a Toyota Previa (a minivan) with "one of those" exhausts the other day, and it was quite disturbing.

Anyway... back to the topic, if the noise really bothers me when I pick up the MS3 in a couple of weeks, I may just have to swap out the muffler. Are there any products that reduce the noise without noticeable performance loss? I've used dynamat on the Acura, and it was nice despite the added weight (as the dynamat isn't so light).

what kind of car did you drive previously to the ms3 dcomiskey? the ms3 has a "performance tuned" exhaust, it will have that drone sound. i personally don't mind it, i think it adds to the sporty appeal of the car.

Coming from a road noisy Protege 5 i would have to say that the exhause isnt droning at all, well maybe it is if you putter around town in 6th gear. I think that the road noise from the tires, in this car, drowns everything else out. If you dont like the way the exhaust sounds and you have the cash look into removing the last 2 resonators and sticking in a "quieter" muffler. Also remeber its a hatch so lots more sound enters the cabin as opposed to a sedan. But i agree some Ramat or Dynamat would help a bit.

I had a GTI, which wasn't loud at all (besides the annoying CAI). It was a fairly quiet car, despite all the mods. Definitely no drone, but I never replaced the stock cat back exhaust (DP only).

It doesn't bother me when I have the radio on, but when I don't that's when it annoys the hell out of me.

Anyone else notice their windshield wiper blades squeaking on the windshield? Another minor annoyance I discovered. :)

Step 1: Install Fatmat, Dynamat, BrownBread, eDead mat, etc.

Step 2: Install nice amp, speakers, and sub to both make use of the sound deadener and to mask any noises you don't want to hear

Actually, the stock Bose suits me just fine. :)

I also had a GTI. Yes, it was a quieter car. The mazda is smoother. It's a trade off. I had an aftermarket cat back and the DP. The VW was still quieter. :)

Quieter... and slower... =p

My RSX was quiet, too! (and slow... haha)

I was seriously considering the new GTI until I heard about the MS3.
I think GTI is an awesome car, and it'd be perfect for someone who likes performance but creature comfort is more important. (although I don't know about the reliability since I've never owned a VW)

I wonder how much quieter mufflers cost. -_-a

My previous two cars were VWs. I loved my last one, but I'll never buy another VW again for many reasons; some of which being POOR dealer service and VW just won't offer decent performance options for their cars (GTI = 200hp...MS3 = 263 hp). The interior quality is slightly superior to Mazda, but he MS3 is leagues beyond any VW you can buy for the price. And the MS3 has a lot more interior space.

Enough of the VW Brands.

Come on lets focus on the question. VW has never been and never will be.
