Any suggestions for my first 5 mods? I really can't decide an angle of approach. (sad2) I should have about $2500 - $3000 saved up by mid spring to get started. (drinks) I'm having a brainfart because this will be the first Mazda or forced induction car I've ever tuned. But most importantly this will be the first car I'll ever tune for real racing purposes. I would like to race my Mazdaspeed Protege in the SCCA. (wrc) All of my previous experience has been with drag racing. So if anyone races SCCA or has raced a similar format, I would really appreciate any info(kiss). I'm not ashamed to admit I really don't know what I'm donig here! (dunno) By the way, this is why I chose the MSP. It doesn't have a lot of power, but I think Mazdaspeed built this thing with competitive racing in mind. I love my MSP! (butthump)

dude....welcome to the boards, please do us a favor and use the "search" button to find the answer to your questions. this is the third thread about this topic THIS WEEK.

Intake, full exhaust, FMIC, BOV, MBC.

That is 5 and it should be right around your target price.

Damn (owned)
I'd say intake, exhaust, tt, fmic, if u had money boost gauge and mbc

if not wait for a Piggy back unit.

Go with a full 3" turbo back exhuast, Electronic/Manual Boost controller, Short Shifter, CAI/SRI & Modern Performance Piggy Back or FMIC...Should put you in your range!

MPI Piggy will help lean out the horrendous rich miture that the ecu gives..also will help with the infamous "HESITATION"!

The FMIC will help out during summer time..when the weather is really hot..and you start noticing the heat soak!

truly do we need the TT??? our cars are liquid cooled arent they?? they dont need as much maintance as the others that are not... just let car run 30-1 min after it will live life of car..

i say FMIC, CAI, A'pexi acvr, 2 gauge pillar (w/ boost , a/f), exhaust!

tt's arent a total waste of money, but you dont need one.

And yes, search for this answer.. plus theres a WHOLE aftermarket guide somewhere.

1) iON Front-Mount Intercooler with BOV
2) iON Turbo-Back Exhaust
3) iON Cold Air Intake
4) Lightened Flywheel
5) Kartboy shortshifter with shift knob and bushings

i would recommend ion but website just dont do it for me.. i cant trust ordering stuff from a site not put togather professionally.. makes me wonder about actual company

First mod is an scca rule book, so you can figure out what is legal in your class that you want to race in and then spend the rest of your money on a cage for your car so you can run in the scca.. and if you meant you wanted to autocross then disregard the cage. If you do intend to track your car then i would buy the best brakes you can afford and some more rims and tires they start to go quickly. I see that you are from Oklahoma, i don't know of any race schools that are near there but it is worth the trip to one, i know the money i spent at Bondurant School in arizona was well worth it. I also enjoy running with my local BMW club they put on great schools for the 125 bucks for a day instead of the 100 plus an hour i paid at bondurant. Anyway buy the scca book because if you do the mods that have been recomended in this thread and intend to only auto cross then you will soon find yourself out gunned in street mod and that won't be much fun.. because with your budget your car won't really compete with the cars in street mod.

Thanks for reading the whole thread. (bowdown) I wasn't sure the SCCA would have different classes for stock or tuned vehicles. (wiggle) I'll get that book. I hope they consider the MSP a "stock" vehicle. Oh, by the way there is a track about an hour from my house. I'm not sure on the spelling but I think it is Hallet Raceway. I know they host races for many car clubs, and you can go down on just about any given day and pay $100 for all day use of the track! (wow) Thanks again for the info! (bowdown)

If you wanna spend your might right then get a full exhaust,fmic-kit,boost guage, sri and mbc....

Dont let people tell you to get a cai first if you have that kind of money. its not gonna do anything performance wise... few hp...thats it. when you get all the other stuff and then add the cai/sri you will get a much much better increase.

people can have their own opionions so just chill... i have my own opionion on how a business should be ran so i said it.. i dont truly care yes ion parts i have seen are nice but i wont buy till there is legit site.. i like to see the products i am buying. i like to read about products im buying. you cannot do any of this on ions site.. nothing against ion good job guys for your work so far.. just hope you guys get a site up soon :)

I'll step in... Ion makes good stuff but most of it is way overpriced! And dont even try to defend that... like i said it may be good but I can get a whole lot more that performs just as good for a lot less.
