I've been thinking about putting a sub in the speed3, but I dont want anything crazy.

I will not be competing for sound systems, I just want it to sound good and I want something that wont take up to much room in the trunk.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Budget?

What type of music do you listen to?

Are you upgrading anything other then adding on a subwoofer?

I listen to everything I have over 15,000 songs on my ipod ranging from Chrystal Method to vivaldi four season (Classical)

NO COUNTRY MUSIC!!

As of right now I won't be upgrading anything but adding a sub.
Budget: no Higher than $400

I want to be able to do this in my car------>(dance)

I'm no audiophile but the original owner of my car put in a single 10" kicker sub (I don't know the model) in a small sealed box (it's almost like a truck box). It's got 250 watts going to it. The thing pounds!

Pioneer TS-SW3041D (12") or TS-SW2541D (10")

These are 2 of the "Shallow Mount Subwoofers" that are out there. They only require 0.5 - 1.0 cubic foot box, so it definitely saves room. This is what I plan on going with (12") when I am ready in the spring.

This is what I did and it sounds fine... any more sub and I would have to start sound deadening crap to avoid it from rattling - velcro strap the box to the back of the seat so it wont fly around

Too bad Ipods have virtualy no sub bass to give but oh well.
Just get any basic 10" sub and give it about 120 watts rms.
then you just need the amp wiring kit and a sealed sub box.
I would do a JL audio 10W1, but thats me.

$400 should be good if you are doing the install your self.

Infinity Basslink

one of the local speed3 owners has one of these and I must say it sound pretty nice, if you want something decent and compact, this might be something you want to invest in, and I remember him saying that, all you had to do was to tap the wires from the speakers in the rear if you're gonna put the basslink there, so there's no need to tap anything from the head unit.

and its half of what you're looking to spend :D

Thanks for the help! This forums is alot more helpful then some of the other forums I use to belong to!

JL Audio subs are amazing. They might be beyond your budget however. Ie, the 12TW5-4 runs $449.90 at retail.

It is true that you need some sort of factory Equalization correction to properly get all the sub-bass to the after market amplifier.

If you are only putting in a woofer, I would stay away from the cleansweep though; Again, it will break your budget. I think MTX makes a bass restoration device...

I thought the TW5 was not available until January?

ya.. I dono... I didn't really look for it much.. I saw a press release from January 1st 2007.. so i assumed it was released by now...

I didn't see any on e-bay though....
