Stupid Question but, here it goes!!!!!

Hi Everyone,

I have 98.9% of the parts to turbocharge my P5. Now I am going with the stock MSP setup which I have been told that if I have the MSP ECU should be just fine. However after posting on my local Mazdas FB page ppl tell me that I still have to tune the car or I will blow the engine. I am looking for all the insight that ppl are willing to share. Now here comes the stupid question, can anyone tell me how long will it take me to do full installation of the turbo set up, pointers on things I should be careful or pay close attention to and what would be the hardest part of the process. I want to thank all of the ppl in advance for their input on the topic.

If you have a stock mazdaspeed setup and mazdaspeed ecu, tuning is not necessary. It would help alot as the stock setup runs very rich but it's not necessary. As far as install time, it can vary depending on experience and knowledge. Anywhere from 6 hours or more depending on how complete your setup is. cutting and fitting custom intercooler piping is going to be the hardest part.

Ok, I am a bit skeptical about all of the manifold bolt and nuts as I have seen many ppl brake them. The FMIC I bought came off a P5 that was turbocharged and the guy assured me it is cut and gave me the routing insight. I guess my main concern is not the installation but, the dismantling of the items on the car right now.

Soak all the bolts with pb blaster 24 hours in advance. Most people have a problem with the manifold bolts breaking on the turbo manifold. It is less of a problem coming from N/A because the manifold and bolts see much less heat.

Great! One thing that I just realized is that I don't know where to setup the MAF and where do all of the vacuum hoses go. I know that the BOV has a vacuum and so does the waste gate but do not know where they should be connected when on the car. Would you happen to know?

In a factory setup the Maf is placed in front of the turbo right before the air filter, but it will also work in the intercooler pipes before the throttle body. The BOV just needs any vacuum source after the throttle body to work, the wastgate could be used the same way, but the better way for the wastegate is a pressure only source right from an intercooler pipe.

So I can take a T and have the wastegate attach to the BOV and then have the BOV from any vacuum after the throttle?
