the other night i went to my friends house. It was grand.
when i was leaving, i got in my car and started it. Then when i tried to shift the stick would not go into any of the gears. I kept trying and moving it around, but no gears would work. I ended up sitting there for about ten minutes until it eventually popped into first gear, but it didnt feel good. Now of course if i take it in it wont happen, cause mazdas only have problems when the dealerships not there. I have heard of ther people not being able to shift into reverse, or like one gear, but i dont think i have ever read about none of the gears working. What sucks is that i am relatively nice to my shifter. I dont really ever slam it, and i am always fully in gear when i let off.
any thoughts?, just wanted to vent.

i have the same not going into gear problem occasionally tho only in rev tho . i have to put it into another gear if im trying to go into reverse

yeah same here, quite often mine will not go into reverse until the car moves an inch or so :-/ sometimes its difficult to get into first as well, used to happen on other standard cars i had but it seems to happen quite often on the MSP

On alot of manual tranny cars, sometimes you need to go to 3rd gear first, then engage reverse. This was a common practice on the Borg Warner T5
MEAT

I am new to the MSP and it has not gone into first and reverse for me also. If you put the car in neutral and let the clutch out, rev it just a little bit (2000 RPM) push the clutch in, put the car back into gear and try again. I have had several other manual tranny cars this worked on including the MSP. I think someone told me it has something to do with first and reverse not having syncros. Not sure if that is true or not. No idea why it wouldn't go into any of the gears.

I have the same problem. And i have a good idea. take a baseball bat and beat the tranny to hell.

Mine is actually pretty smooth. I occasionally have a problem with reverse. Just pop the clutch again and it'll go in.

Yeah, I occasionally have a problem getting it into 1st or reverse. I just put the shifter back into neutral, engage and disengage the clutch, and it goes right in.
