student loan consolidation agencies

i have some private loans for school that i would like to consolidate. i'm sure others have gone through the same, so i am wondering what agencies you have found to give you the best interest rate and are easy to deal with? my goal in consolidating is to lower my interest rate so it gets paid off sooner, since they are now all through the same bank and i only make 1 payment a month on 3 different loans anyways, so there is no convenience factor at all, just lower interest. thanks.

When you said private loan, did you mean loans from a bank? If you had loans like Perkins or direct loans you can consolidate with the govt. I think the rate is now around 3%.

I consolidated last June before the rates went up. My loans were all Stafford Loans so I did this through the Government at 2.875%.

yes, they are through the bank. i got them through sallie mae, i think they're called "plus loans" or something, but the end result is they're through a bank

i also did that last year with my stafford loans but i am going to keep those separate and take the full term to pay them off, as i'm not going to beat 2.875%

direct loans. This is from the federal goverment, the lowest rates ever. The best service too. Now, i am not sure if they will take loans that was not given from the federal government, but it is definitly worth a shot.
