Stripped nut - Removal?

Hey guys, got all 3 of four nuts off my rear engine mount. The mount is between the intake manifold and the firewall (rear mount). I have only one nut left holding on the mount, but unfortunately it stripped off on me. It's kinda in a tight spot, and really I can only get to it with a two foot extension. I can just get my hand to it in the engine bay with some things removed, but there isn't enough room to hammer anything. Anyone know hot to get the stripped nut off? Bleh, why is it the last nut and not the first =P

I thought maybe using a tapkit / nut splitter, but do they have those in a deep socket, seeing as I could only turn it with a deep socket 17mm?

Maybe a dremel and shave down what you can. then get a socket and a long breaker bar to give you the best leverage.....

not really sure.

can u fit a angle grinder in there an cut it off?.. if not.. take your deep socket 18.. stuff some paper in it and try that.. thats what i had to do to get some of the lower arm bolts off my buddies integra.. i donno why it worked but it did.

lol an 18 and paper? haha, if I can't get a tap set I may try that, have to buy a deep socket 18 tho.

well I can reach it with my hand, but I have no more space than a coke can sitting on the bolt, which means, a vise grip wouldn't have enough room to turn. I really appreciate the help guys, s'why I love the board +D

the reason I ended up stumped tho is I called my local Sears hardware and they said they didn't have a damaged nut extracter kit. So I broke down and went myself..... and they did have it. I hate them all.so I'm gonan try it, and let you guys know how it works. kinda pricey tho, 9 sockets for 60$, it's like I'm buying snap-on, jeez!

im going to buy my 1/2" 2' extension tonight. Did you use a impact ot a breaker bar??

I reccomend a dremel with the flex extention. use a cutter and shave down new sides to the bolt and then us a smaller socket. Or you can cut into it making sure you don't cut into the threads then use a chisel or a screwdriver to separate it and bend it apart and off the thread

used 2' worth of 3/8", went with a breaker bar with square tubing sleeved over it to help even more. Although to get the stud that goes through the rubber mount instelf and takes the weight of the engine, you have to hold one side of it with a ratchet 17mm socket, and then under the car I used a smaller breaker bar and I had to take off the member brace under the oil pan to have enough room for my breaker bar's movement. No biggie tho, only four bolts hold it to the subframe. Real easy.

Word of advice tho, to get to the bolts on top of the engine mount, that you have to get to with 2' of extensions, there is a big ass cluster of wires loomed into one thick ass wire, it runs just above the bolts in the way, you can unbolt it from the firewall with a deep socket 10mm, 1 nut on top, one under it.

I'll make a whole how to one how to do the rear motor mount when I borrow a digi cam from one of the houston area p5ers

BTW, I now have both mounts front and rear on, wheeeee

sweet, glad you got the nut off. I ended up getting a 20" 1/2 extension. I think i might need a liltle more, but that was the biggest they sold at sear hardware.it looks like i will be doing it sunday.

well I mean I had 2' total worth of extensions clicked together, couple of 3", couple 10" and so on. Really tho at the end of the extensions, in some cases you may need a flex-joint connected to a 3" extension, then to the deep socket 17mm. Cause near the bolt the hard lines of the power steering can get in the way, sorry I didn't mention that earlier =P

I read it before that AWR gave a list of 'recommended' tools to do this. Anyone have "The List of Tools"?

i have a 1/2 flex joint also. I might need another 3" extension i checked it out yesterday and 20" is right at the swaybar:mad:.

s'what you get for having a turbo, and only 20" of extension, well more so the 20" part, but I still am jealous. =)
