Streetdreams $ vs Hiboost $

Why is streetdreams.com.au considerably more expensive than hiboost.com.au? Streetdreams.com.au = $8500.00AUD + $1000.00AUD installation
hiboost.com = $3995.00USD converted to AUD using '.70' exchange rate = $5705.15AUD + approximately $1000AUD installation. I understand that businesses do have to make a profit...but that much profit...what do streetdreams.com.au have to modify with the hiboost kit that costs $3500.00AUD extra...How much is the import tax? Just curious?

They do it because they think people will pay if they have no other option. Thankfully for you you stumbled upon the wonderful world of the internet and importing is very viable. More so if you know someone who will install for you at mates rates, but still worthwhile even if you have to pay for the manhours.

Is it the exact same turbo kit? Check the turbo, engine management, fuel options, quality of tubing/hoses/clamps. Flow rates of intercooler. There is usually a reason why prices differ. Then again, they might just be making a buck?

There was a similiar question a few months ago..
Reasoning is the following :

- original price was set to cover all ups and downs of the market
- original price was also set when the dollar was lower
- new computer is required
- new maps are required
- quite a few ods and ends are different

the kits ships with and e6x with preloaded maps.

I have just been talking to Juan about the kit. The price has been lowered to 3600 know. The kit fits fine he says. the reason why they did not fit originally was because of the intercooler piping. but know the have used longer connections pipes to make it fit easier. another thing is our car run alot richer than the americans. but i can't see why we can't just alter the amount of fuel input by using RRFR (rising rate fuel regulator). with the kit you must also get a boost gauge and also a A/F ratio gauge. also if i get one i will be getting the hiboost adjustable boost controller. so i can tune the amount of boost.

I don't understand why streetdreams charges so much. But i do know they use a Haltech E6X instead of a Haltech F10. but other than that i do not know why they charge so much. you are better of emailing them and finding out a price. in an earlier post he said that the price would differ with the change in the US dollar.

import duties will run at 3% (or 5%) plus 10% gst.

but in all honesty, you'd be better off doing a complete custom job

Have a few questions here....

1) must the engine undergo some engine works like head work, camshafts, full exhaust work before installing the hiboost turbo kit? or can we just install the turbo kit on a stock engine? went thru the websites of streetdreams.com.au and hiboost.com but the kit does not include any exhaust parts. does that mean that a complete exhaust system must come first before the turbo kit?

2) how much will it cost for a complete exhaust kit plus the turbo kit? let say the turbo kit cost aud$6000.

3) kinda stupid question but is it legal to install a turbo kit on cars in brisbane? i might add 1 more here since i've already asked. is it also legal to install the hid kit? will the piaa lightbulbs work fine without the hid kit?

from what ive read and head after speaking with people from hi boost and street dreams its a simple bolt on with no engine work required to apply it
obvously if you wan more power and want to wind up the psi engine work like low compression pistons or work on the head will nead to be done but anitially with out any work you can get 200whp out of the 1.8 and about 210-215 out of the 2 liter engine
Both kits are very extensive apart from the turbo back system and when researching wether to do it or not with my car i saw figures of 1000-2500 depending on what you want
If you decide to do the kit you will have alot of fun with an allready enjoable car

quick reply :

1) you can just bolt on, but you will need a custom exhaust made up
2) cheap setup $6k
3) it's sort of illegal. you'd need to have a mod plate fitted (ie approved by main roads). with hid's i am not sure, but i have true hid's. bulbs that you can buy are not hid's, they are just coloured bulbs
