i got busted for street racing this evening...written on the ticket as "speed contest"...ive seen a bunch of codes and people telling me that besides getting fined, i would get community service, points on my driver's license, jail time, suspension of license, anything...since this is my first offense, i have no clue what to expect...

and for all those out there, yes, i kno i shouldnt have been street racing...it was a total lapse of judgment on my part...i just need to kno what to expect...

Pay the piper , as least you are not in Toronto Canada , your car would be impounded and then upon coviction it would be crushed

yeah...theyre actually instituting that in a few places out here...luckily, not my area...yet

yes, i kno that...as i said before, it was a total lapse of judgment...

sadly there isn't much you can do here outside of taking it unlubricated up the tailpipe. good luck man.

I know exactly all about this because I did the same stupid thing and got caught but I tried to run and got caught about 5 miles later by a road block. I paid alot of money in fines and lawyer fees to keep me out of jail and my car still..but now in Virginia they take your car and you go to jail until you go to court.

expect to pay a lot of money, either in lawyer fees, fines, keep me out of jail funds, anything like that. if you don't have the money to pay for a decent lawyer, jail time could be a possibility depending on your local laws, but my guess is as a first offense they wouldn't lean towards that. and i'd start arranging other means to get around

"you gotta pay to play"

sorry to hear bout that....Im sure you learned alot from this lesson. But the important question is, DID YOU WIN?

Hire a good lawyer, he can probably atleast bring down the consequences somewhat. Maybe let you off with a fine and community service. Or points.

On the east coast you lose your car, your license, and your ass.

California state law is going to be different than any other state, especially since they have been trying to make examples out of street racers there. You can pretty much thank the idiots that sanction street racing and make videos of them to post all over the internet and in the video stores.

Laws in California have been changed to be tougher to discourage this sort of thing lately. Pretty much depending on the judge and your past drivers license history you can get a number of things happen. 1) Lose your license for 30 days or more 2) Lose your car... indefinetly 3) Go to a remediation drivers class 4) Pay major fines and/or 5) Jail time.

Do some research on California state law - Department of Transportation Division, "speed contest" or "speed exhibition". It will tell you what the possible fines and/or penalties will be. Then again, a lawyer will be able to tell you the same thing. Also, most of them will give you a free consultation. So check around before committing to paying one. But definetly, you can look to spend some money on this either way.

Are you a student? If so, many Universities have FREE legal counsel for their students.

When I got pulled over for supposedly DUI and refused the breathalyzer, I got a free lawyer through school.
(BAC was under the limit so all charges wer dropped luckily).
