I need to know how much does the cops can fine someone presumed to be racing on the streets?

Here in Puerto Rico, 1st time they take you racing on the streets the fine is $3,000.00 and 6 months license suspended. 2nd time is $5,000 and jail.

Don't do it, then you won't have to worry about it.

Yep alot of places are really really cracking down on it. Not sure about street racing but here a reckless is something like 600, 6 month sup and up to 90 days in jail...On your first offense!
Some places are resorted to taking cars on the second one and you never get the car back.

Texas is pretty severein their penalties. Check out this link and search for 1326. I couldn't find any details on fines associated with racing, but I'm sure they are steep. They aren't set by the cops, I believe, but by the state/provice/whatever.

HB 1326 automatically suspends
for one year the driver license
of anyone convicted of illegally racing
on a public roadway. Before the
license can be reinstated, the driver
would have to complete 10 hours of
community service. The penalty for
street racing increases to a Class
B misdemeanor. The law also increases
the punishment for drivers
who are racing drunk, who have
open containers of alcohol in the
vehicle when racing, who seriously
injure or kill someone during
the race or who have been convicted
multiple times of illegal racing.
The offenses range from a
Class A misdemeanor a seconddegree
felony.

i think u get your car impounded if deemed driving wrecklessly (i'm not sure if it's up to the officer to deem it wreckless or not or if they set a speed, i.e. in excess of 100 mph, the law was being worked on, but i'm not sure if it had passed in legislature or not), a nice hefty fine, and/or jail time. this is the first offense. i assume this law will be worked on right now during our legislative session.

Not enough. I'd save time and money if they just took em out back and shot them in the head. And then send the bill for the bullet to the parents. Then sell the cars at auction so we can get good deals.

I wouldn't be worried about the fines as much as I'd be worried about losing my life. Street racing nowadays (especially the way it's done in Houston) is just crazy. You're gambling with your life and the lives of those around you.

Why risk all of that for a 16-second thrill?

its ok these things happen.
if you want to race on the street then you have to take the chances that you will get caught/fined/jailed/imponded/hurt/killed/kill someone else/hurt someone else.
if you race at the track you can still get hurt/killed/kill someone else/hurt someone else.

Yea they take it. Holyoke and Springfield Ma. Not that I would hang around in those towns...lol. Sorry for who ever lives there....no really....sorry.

I liked NYC's confiscation and conversion to police cruiser. Nothing worse than seeing your car painted blue and white with a popo driving it. They left the cars modded also, wheels, superchargers, etc...

Yes, but you're missing the point.

On the track, the people that can get hurt are those that have come to that venue by their own choice. On the street, the people that can get hurt include your 9-year-old sister on her way home from softball practice and other innocent bystanders.

Street racing is destructive and selfish.

what if the car is ilegal to begin with?

nitros, too low, no cats?

I got a "racing" ticket here in Dallas (Grapevine actually). Probably not the same thing since there were 4-5 of us and no one got speeding or moving violations, only "Racing" written in the "other" section of the ticket. Apparently we were traveling too close together (single file on a two lane road) so the cop assumed we were racing.

$150 fine and 90 days deferred adjudication.

interesting...

yeah, I dont to that anymore, but here now the law says that if a cop or another authority sees you passing a car fast enough to believe you are racing or challenging or just because you want to go first than the other car, they can process you as ilegal street racing.
