Strange behavior on highway in 4th & 5th

So today I was driving home from work and the following happened.
I was on I95 in 4th gear going about 50 and i pushed down to accelerate (I wasn't slamming the pedal to the floor or anything like that, just trying to slightly above average accelerate, there was no need to downshift as I wasn't trying to shoot beyond anyone). As soon as you could feel the turbo kick in the car started to surge and shudder. It felt like if you were in first gear and you weren't giving it enough gas. Then the same thing happened afterwards when I was in 5th. This isn't my first turbo and none of the others I have owned did this. Is this normal on a speed3? I wanted to ask on here before I called the dealer to have them check it out. Car is a 09 GT with *610* miles on it, bone stock.

depends on exactly what you mean by shuddering. There are "lumpy" spots in the acceleration curve, I am sure others will chime in. Over time I have learned to avoid them for the most part, it's automatic for me now.

Considering I don't know much about the DISI engine yet this may not apply but I'm sure someone will correct me if it doesn't... I had this same problem with my eclipse gsx when I had it. When id get into boost in the higher gears it should shudder and buck all over the place. Turn out my spark plugs were way over gapped on 2 or 3 cylinders and the plugs wouldn't spark.

have the dealer check it out, because the same thing happen to me a few times and the last time it happen it bent one of my rods.

Sounds odd. @ 50 mph in 4th, the engine shouldn't bog or anything when you accelerate. You're right in the lower end of the power band at that point.

I'm usually in 5th if I am cruising @ 50 mph, and can accelerate with no issues, whether mild or hard acceleration. (Although I'd usually downshift to 4th to accelerate hard @ 50 mph)

I'd seriously consider bringing the car in for a diagnostic check. Encourage them to test drive the car to replicate your experience.

You shouldn't be getting surge or problems as long as your not accelerating hard when the rpm are at 3000 and higher. do NOT hard accelerate any lower than that.

It started happening in every gear this morning whenever the turbo would kick in.
Car is at the Dealer here, will update everyone when they call.

And yes, I do use premium lol

Car is fixed
the fuel pump went. My dealer had to put a new one in.
They were at least honest and said they had no idea why the electronics in the pump went after 600 miles. Glad it wasn't anything more serious

Right on. This is very good to hear man. That is weird for it to have failed with such low mileage and bonestock. They usually go out when your heavily modded.

Wow. Well, I guess that's what the warranty is for. Good catch bringing it in ASAP like that. Could've left you stranded sooner or later, and if starved for fuel, running too lean could have done some serious damage!

Sometimes stuff just quits. Good ya got it fixed with no more aggravation than bein' without it for a while.
