Stock Tires at good price - anyone?

Yay-Boost - Thanks for the offer but right now I'm not sure what I'm doing with all this controversy over which tire is better - and even so I'm just the type of guy to buy new stuff. No offense, but thanks a lot for the offer.

As for the rest of what everyone is saying, it seems more ppl believe the Goodyears are better, and as one person said, the only way to know is to try them for myself. One thing is for sure though is that I was never disappointed in the RE040s. After all, I killed an SRT-4 through about a mile of corners on scrubbed RE040s. But I'm intrigued by the reviews of the Goodyears though to be honest. The only thing is, if I go ahead and buy the Goodyears, what the hell do I do with the one RE040 I have with about 20 miles on it?

TireRack's interest is selling tires. Not giving strong opinions on any products they sell. Its not smart to criticize the same product you are trying to sell. Its complete bulls*** to test three different tires and at the end of the day say one tire ranked a 7.66, the other was a 7.64, and last the was a 7.69. They attempt to be as neutral as possible. I have driven on max performance tires that I would rate a 3 out of 10. But you will never see such a rating on TireRack. What vendors would want to supply TireRack with tires if their reviews were always subpar. Ive never seen a horrible review of a tire on TireRack and I am damn sure that people on occasion have been very very unhappy with certain tires that have been bought based on the reviews. Secondly, many people who are writing reviews and survery are going from stock OEM All season rubber to max performance tires. They will notice a big difference with most of the tires. They never mention characteristcs such as sidewall stiffness which is very important when running aftermarket suspension such as high rate coil overs and upgraded roll bars/strut bars. The goodyears roll over and flex on my car with 12k/8k spring rates. The potenzas do not. Back to back mounting was a night and day difference betweeen the potenzas and the goodyears. Have you ever noticed the razor sharp steering in the MSP? That is partly due to the tires. I can almost gaurantee installing goodyears will degrade that almost magic on center feel and telepathic turn in the car has with the re040s. Tuning cars is all about buying and trying, so I encourage to test them out. They have a good buzz around them so you could always sell the goodyears just like I did after you tried them out. The tires i suggest earlier have proven to be nice replacement at the track and on the street.

The average owner bitchs about their tires not handling in snow. This is why I say i could care less what average drivers have to say. They dont know s***. Who would think a max peformance dry summer tire would handle light snow?

Potenzas are loud, bad in rain, wear quickly and sometimes unevenly and are stiff, but this is exactly what makes them shine when its warm out and the surface is dry and your suspension is tuned and your asss can handle a stiff legged ride.

(headbang) word.

I own the F1 GS-D3's and they hands down **** the RE040''s. Now the Pole Position S03s are neck and neck with the Goodyears but the F1's and the 03's are far removed from the mediocrity that is the RE040.

Was the RE040 a good stock tire? Yes. Are they as good as the F1 GS-D3's? No way in Hell, Heaven or Earth for that matter.

I think I'm lucky to be in the dilemma that I'm in - already having one brand new RE040. I think I'll just go ahead and buy 3 more. The differing opinions has me all over the place plus I'm moving from South FL to Atlanta this Summer so what the heck. Thanks to everyone for their advice.

i say go with the khumo mx's. They are on par with the falken azenis sports, and let me tell you, the falkens are no jk.

215 45 17 in the khumos and youll be happy. They have a slightly longer tread life then the falkens as well.
