Posting up the FULL parts necc for a stock 03.5 sub setup. I also believe that the floor covering itself is slightly different, but not enough to require modification or be overly noticeable.

1st pic, the area with the foam spacer blocks in it. The harness should be taped down into place surrounding, then over to the fornt of the driver's side rear wheelwell.which takes us to

2nd pic. this is inside the left rear doorsill. If you fold down the rear seatback, you should be able to pull of a couple of center-pop plastic pieces and then pull back the trim panel that covers the area. There is a full attachment plug here where one entirely removing a stock sub system should have removed. the other end of this will then plug intot he stock unit. On earlier cars, I think there's power/ground/remote attachments here, but no speaker level.. this would have to be taken form further up infront of the door.

3rd pic. the FULL bunch of parts necc for installing the factory sub. COnfusing, but there's ALOT more to it than JUSt the unit itself. Prettmyuch the spacers/trays,etc are necc because you will need to flip your tire upsidedown. to fit the sub in, nad it willnot just simply flip stock due to the "nub" that's in the wheel well.

Hopefully this helps clear some stuff up. Hit me up if you've got any other Q's

Yup puts out LOTS of SQL! ;)

All joking aside, with it, the fully stock stereo was really pretty damn good. It got me through the summer quite nicely. Plus the extra room was nice for bike gear.

*sigh*
so this stock sub isn't worth the hassle of installation it sounds like.
I'm gonna call mazda dealer right now and just check on the price of the floor raise piece.
:(

actually it's a mean looking tupperware container. It's a fairly timid looking sub. :D

and btw- tupperware is a good quality product. :D

I've been intending to further look into this, and possibly try to make a plug-in solution for mine. But there is a bit involved, yes. I'll let you know if I figure out anything more.

oh, and note also the foam blocks, and extended hold-down bolt for the tire was well. they're silly little bits, but quite vital (and possibly spendy) The harness could likely be purchased from a stereoshop, I think it's a pioneer made unit...

Poseur..
would you even recommend that i attempt this installation?

argh..
i'm on the phone about finding the piece and the lady has NO CLUE and no listing for it or the sub.. :(

Honestly, It does alright for filling in a bit, but it really won't stack up to even the cheapest 8 in a small sealed box. If you want the clean unobtrusive installation, then by all means go for it, but for what it's likely gonna cost at this point for you to get ahold of all the parts, unless whoever you bought it from is willing to remove everything and send it to you, I'd say you could do better for less. Know that it will, indeed raise your floor about 3-4" which may or may not matter to you.

FWIW, not sure if you can get your money back from the other seller, and I really wasn't intending on selling my stuff, but if you want everything, I'd be willing to part withit all, it's really doing me no good sitting in the garage. I could prolly even make up a little plug-in wiring harness thing as well.

I don't want you to have to part with anything if you don't want to.. I will work something out with it I hope. The local Mazda dealer here quoted me $325 for the whole sub kit. They don't sell the parts separately.

I agree totally. You can get a small box in the corner of the cargo area that won't take up much room and will be TONS better than the factory sub. It's great for free w/ a 03.5, but I wouldn't pay 10 cents for it.

$325?!?!? Damn...for that kind of money I could build you a ridiculous piece! I've got you pegged under 200$ for that xtant and hifonics get-up in a custom box!

Hell, I'd fiberglass a box for that kinda buck, and I'm sofar HATING this stuff...

And, really it's nto taht I don't want to part with it, Just hadn't considered selling it before for no real reason. PM me if you wanna do it, I really don't have any particular attachment to it all.

If your looking for the factory sub, i have one i just tore out today. PM me and well discuss what all i can part with.

wow, Way to resurrect a 2 year old thread. And, now that you hopefulyl read it all, and know what all exactly is required, Unless you're willing to sell it all, I highly advise anyone not to buy it.
