Stock Sub + Aftermarket Headunit?!?

I am going to install an Alpine 9855 in my p5 tomorrow. I currently have the stock HU with the changer. Will my factory sub work? I have run subs in the past but from my reading online here it seems like it just taps the rear speakers, so i should have to fool around with any preouts right?

Any info or links would be appreciated thanks.

It should work no problem, the factory wiring is spliced into the factory harness that will still be used. So should work without any glitches. I just put a Stock sub in with a Blaupunkt H/U, but had to do all the wiring myself...Sounds great tho...Good luck.

You are right, it just splices off the rears. Which means your head unit won't be able to adjust the sub. It'll all work fine, you just won't have that extra control that running RCA pre-outs would get you.

I've found that I can get pretty good control over mine with the X-tra bass boost settings...level #3 is bumpin, #2 is pretty loud, and #1 is pretty low...

If you wanted to fade more sound to the fronts and less to the rears, your sub becomes ineffective assuming you have the pre-wired connection at the left rear door.

Yah it was just plug and play for mine....I guess it was all in the wiring harness, i was concerned at first but it sounds great!!! im not gunna put any aftermarket system in now

i saw your gauge cluster and i saw the display on the far left by the gas gauge and was like "what the hell?" then i realized what it was lol

anyways. thats a bitchin headunit. id like to do somethin like that in mine one day. but for now im happy with my pioneer

I also have an Alpine w/the stock sub. Definitely enhances the bass. Like others said, it goes off the rears. I have bass +4 and +3 rear fade bias. Sounds great.
