I'm wanting to buy a sub with a built in amp to add a little bass to the system but want to keep the stock head unit for now. Can this be wired up with ease or should I get a wire harness or kit of some kind?

Secondly, if you have a sub with a built in amp for sale I'd be interested.

i had a sub with stock head unit and it worked fine ..
i didnt do theinstall but im pretty sure there was no special thing.

you'd have to get an loc or a sub that accepts speaker level inputs, I believe. The self enclosed things never sound that great though. I've heard decent reviews of the w00x by kenwood, but if you're gonna take up the space you can get a nice and cheap box and amp set-up for about the same cost, which will sound tons better.

I have a SonyExploid Amp with 2 "10 Jensen subs. (for now)
with the stock deck. The center console doesnt have to come
out which i thought it would. Just find the rear speaker wires
(which is located in right back passenger side on bottom console.)
and connect the output wires to the AMP. Thats IF you got
high level input on your amp like my amp. If it happens
to be that your amp doesnt have high level inputs, all you need is
a RCA converter.( i think thats what its called.) this is were
you connect the wires (from the converter) on the rear speaker wires and RCA from your amp to the RCA converter.

hope this make sense

which console would u be talking about on the rear right passenger side? is it that cover on the door sills?

hey eli, let me know if you need help with the install. i did the exact same thing as you are wanting to do. well, i have separate amp and sub, but it's the same thing essentially. the only place you can see wires in the car is where the sub is sitting in the hatch. i'm about to downgrade from a 12" to a 10" to get some more trunk space and i'm gonna totally redesign my sub, so yeah... probably within the next few weekends. school starts up on monday, and my schedule looks pretty hectic, but i'll let you know when i'm going to be redoing my box.

For a sub and amp combo look into the Infinity Basslink. One of my friends has it and it sounds pretty good for the size and price.

My friend got it off of E-Bay for $215 shipped i believe. In stores it sells for around $300 - $350.

Later

i think he was talking about the wires in the rear passenger side doors...i tried hooking up my sub/amp to those wires but no output came from those...i then hooked them up to the pins on the back of the stock hu, and it works now!

see, you going back to the harness at back of the stock is a bit far. Its the same wire that runs on right/rear door sills. You just
gotta find the right wires. I would'nt suggest this if your installing
your amp at bottom of your seat. If its going to the rear of the
car, then YES.

you can do it if it's under your seat as well. you just gotta pull the carpet up and make a hole where you are gonna lead the wires. it's doable, but time consuming if you want it done right. once more time frees up, i think i'm gonna redo my system and add another amp and if money is available, another head unit. oh yeah... any recommendations on the component speakers for the front? something in the $300 range. i probably won't make the back components just cause i don't want to deal with drilling.

oh yeah... there's an eclipse 10" sub for $40 on here. is it any good? please help... the 12" JL i have in the back is taking up too much real estate. i'm gonna make me a low profile sub box for the 10.

well u said you found the wires, then thats where you connect it!
;)

now bout the remote wire, thats what turns the AMPs on so all
you gotta find is a live wire when the key is turned ON.
I connected mine through the ignition ON wire which is the blue
wire under the steering Console. its a think solid blue wire, u
cant miss it. :D

hope this helps

since you connected it to the ingnition ON wire, is the amp always on even when the radio is off? if so, do you hear noise when the radio is off b/c the amp is constantly on?

the amp wont be on if the key is on ACC.
I did this so that if i just wanna listen to the
radio, i dont want my amp on so i just turn it
to ACC and its just the radio. It drains your battery
pretty quick if you them both ON without the car
running.....

just a though...

HELP! i can't seem to find the post on how-to remove the stock HU... can somebody please show me where its at? or just tell me how to do it...
also, i'm not getting this "sticky thread" thing... how does that work?
anyone? anyone? bueller?
