Stock MSP Dyno, K&N Panel Filter Gains

I know it varies by car, but for those wondering what a stock MSP dyno looks like (i believe im unflashed by the looks of the AF Ratio). I did 5 Runs, 2 Stock Filter, 2 K&N Panel Filter, and one with the airbox unattached with a turbo fan blowing cooler air in ;) (We just wanted to see how it would react with getting all the air it can)

The dyno runs are merged (well 3 on one and 2 on the other) But you can follow the color codes. they are 4th gear runs from 2k rpm i gassed it. we let it cool between the diff sets of runs. and discovered the coolant leak at high rpm ha.

for the last run, the dyno guy volunteered my friend to stand in front of the car and hold the turbo fan on the air intake, it was his first time to the dyno so it was really funny he said yes to standing in front of my car goin full bore (well not directly but enough that i would have takin his shins out haha)

anyone thats been to a dyno knows how loud it can be. I gave the guy a 5$ tip it was worth it hahaha

I was pretty happy. The k&n showed a lil improvement over stock, it gave ~3hp and ~1Ft lb of Tq. The open air filter gave us 150hp and if u look at the graph on dyno 2 it leans the stock ecu in the mid range, but at redline it went a lil lean. so no air filter is a bad idea lol. I cant believe how rich the ecu goes its offf the charts lol.

damn great numbers man.....yea i HAD the same set up (K&N panel and i am flashed) and i was curious as to what i dynoed at.........maybe im around there........i just installed CAI and i love it! nice numbers!!!
 
perhaps,im not sure if im flashed or not. i havent asked the dealer but i also havent comapred a flashed vs non flashed dyno, but mines really right so im hoping im not flashed.
 
If Im not mistaken, these numbers are at the wheel Num right? Well If they are good stuff. I have the exact same set up. But Im not flashed. My mechanic says that he cant flash my ECU. He said it already Flashed but I dont think so........
 
does that place u got ur car dynoed have an all wheel drive dyno as well? not like it matters i jus heard there was one up state and wondered if it was there

If you have a yellow sticker on the door frame (driver's side) then you're flashed...
 
oh, well i guess im not flashed. i got no yellow stickers, even under the hood. i wonder if i should flash it. im contemplating a piggyback computer, i dont know if it will affect it.

Yeah it's confusing allright!
But if you feel the car isn't pushing as it should around 4000rpm and up (when it goes open loop) then you need the flash, it'll make a big diff. The car should be less jerky too with the flash. The magazine Import Raced (April issue) dynoed the flash to be an extra 3whp. Some people suggest not to flash if you plan to boost, but unless you plan mega-boost I wouldn't worry too much about it. Up to 10 psi it's safe. Anyways if you boost up what you should worry about is cooling (FMIC, CAI, exhaust, high octane and maybe water injection to be really safe)
I'm no techie but by the dyno you posted the power curve is nice 'n smooth and the 4000-5000rpm range is as constant as the 3-4K... looks flashed to me but don't rely on my opinion ;)

well my car it seems to die after 4k actually. its kinda jerky is a better description. i havent driven one of these flashed so i dont know how its supposed to pull after 4k.

sounds like you've got the hesitation. i say get it flashed...

Agreed. The car will keep pulling hard all the way (it does lose power at the end but that's the small turbo...). On a closer look at the dyno sheet, indeed the curve flattens out around 3800-4000rpm, then again at 4500rpm...
Get it flashed and you won't regret it, believe me! ;)

Ok, a seriously newb question here guys. If you do flash, do you have to pay anything? Will the car still be under warranty, and, will it effect engine wear?
 
the flash is free under warranty, and it should be fine for wear and tear, its not a cure all tune, they just advance timing in some areas so that its not so rich. Itll be ok to do.
