Just curious if anyone who has replaced the sub in the MSP, is running the Kenwood amp at a 2Ohm load.

I was thinking about go with two 10's in a 2ohm load, but I'm not sure if the amp can handle it, since it is pretty small. I'll probably end up going with one 12"

I have not run the stock amp at 2 ohm's but it would blow fuses. You could run it in stereo mode and run the subs at 4 ohm's each. There are very few stereo amps that can run brideged at 2 ohm's. One 12" at 4 ohm's will make a very noticable difference. Don't forget to mount the amp in a different location. 4 ohm's upside down (stock location) will overheat on you.

yeah, I kinda figured a 2 ohm load is a bit much to ask out of that little amp.

I'm going to ditch the stock setup, and go with a nice 12" sub in a Q-logic box, and run the amp bridged @ 4 ohms. Says it rated 125 watts RMS, so it should push one 12" sub nicely.

I don't think it will blow fuses but it will likely turn off or go into protection.

can i just buy the JL 8w0 and throw it in the stock location w/o touching the amp?
what ohm load will it be running in?

The 8w0 has 2 flavors. Either 4 ohm or 8 ohm. Eityher one can just drop in. As can the various types of JL 8W3's.

i have a jl audio 8w3 at 4 ohms in the stock box stock amp location. havent had it cut off or go into protection mode yet and i live in hot as ballz florida, and drive with windows down and ac off stereo crankin. luv the jl 8 so much better than b4

In short, power handling, sound quality, impedence, and price.

Because of the low power output of the stock amp, you want to stick with the W0. You want the 4ohm version, not the 8 ohm version.

i just went to sound advice and bought one. it was kinda spontaneous thing or i might have searched online

And you won't. JL doesn't allow online sales, and will not honor warranty if not purchased from an authorized dealer. HOWEVER....
If you're in Chicago, just call the different stereo places and ask if they have one in stock. I bought mine in Memphis, TN from a place called Stereo One.
About $70.
Easy swap, instant gratification.
A couple of warnings, though.
1.) The factory dicks used loctite on the screws, I had to drill out several.
2.) Although the sub bolts right up, the grille will not fit. (No Biggie)

JL audio stuff is good, but the "0" models are the low end of their line if I recall, not to say they are sufficent, but I'm wanting a lot heavier hitting bass.

After all, its an 8" sub, its not really going to pound no matter what enclosure its in. I used to run two Oz Audio 12's in my GTi with an MTX amp, and that s*** pounded when I wanted it too

I listen to trip-hop, rock, metal and I prefer more bass in my music. The stock kenwood set up is ok for a stock stereo, but in my opinion not any better than the bose system in my wifes G35.

It is possible to get 8"s to pound...the 8W0 however is not the sub to do so. The mid to high end 8"s can put out the same bass as a low-end 12". Its all a matter of giving them the right amount of power and putting them in the right box.

The 8W0 is a great upgrade. You will not find a better sounding sub for the price that can sound as good with under 100 watts.
