i'm wondering how worth it it is to go CF as far as weight savings are concerned...interested in the specs on the trunk too if anyone has any info

A couple years back I asked CrazyCaker and this is what he replied regarding hoods -

Hope that helps.

Those weights sound about right to me. I was quite surprised at how light my CF hood was, compared to stock.

I guess the question then is how much weight needs to be lost before noticeable gains are produced?

That would make sense considering I hear carbon fiber wings add about 70..

zoom zoom stickers add about 20whp each. and if you're concerned about weight savings, just kick the fattest passenger out of your car.

So does anyone actually have information about weight loss vs performance increase?

Unless you're a very consistent driver, the weight difference of a CF hood alone is probably going to be undetectable when it comes to 1/4 mile or auto-x times. But if weight reduction is your game, and you've already stripped the interior, that 20 pounds or so is a decent chunk.

For the vast majority of us, just enjoy it's purty-ness and the knowledge that, however minimal, it's helping you out performance-wise a teeny bit.

The rules about x hp/x lb are very crude estimations at best, because equivalencies of reduced mass to acceleration to equivalent gains in horsepower depend completely on many factors like gearing, drag, weight, etc. If you do want to go that route.... then 10lb is about 0.3% of the weight of the car, so you would be looking at a 0.3% increase in rate of acceleration in any given gear. If you wanted, you could do some math and figure out the expected difference in 1/4 mile and 0-60 times, but ball-parking in my head, you'd be tallying up maybe a couple 1/100ths of a second in either measure.

That's kinda the thought process I had. I didn't think there was really all that much gained unless you literally go balls deep.

nice! thanks for getting on this everyone i know what i need now! i was thinking too that lightening the hood might lower the center of gravity on the car too . not much obviously lol...it would mostly be for 'looks' indeed. stickers kill horses though...air drag haha (somehow the spoiler still adds em)

There will be no gains just more reaction to the weight loss. For example put five people in your car and really get on it from a start. The car acts like it is fat and overweight. A car on a diet has more aggility and reaction.

i have heard and i am sure others have to that is 1hp per 10 pounds taken off the car

This is just an estimate. Depends on the car and the engine that is equipped in the car. Some cars you can feel a change with a gain of 10 or more horse and others it is just a fragment of a power conversion.
