does anyone have the ohm loads the amp runs, and at what power it is. i need to know so i can test a sub upgrade for all you guys, and no, its not the JL sub.
I put a 4 ohm sub into the stock box and it over heated. The dumb asses at Mazda bridged 250w to a 125w p.o.s stock sub. I bought a 200w 4 ohm Rockford replacement and because the stock enclosure doesn't have any ventilation, it burned out in 2 weeks. So make sure you check into it with someone who really knows there s***.king air said:I am looking for a 4 ohm sub.
so your saying that if i try to re-locate the amp it could work. oh... and i should also should mention that when you look for a speaker make sure you read the specs on it. i skipped the part where it said the speaker enclosure needed to be ported. what i (cabpatch) was saying about mazda in my last reply still stands, i blew 2 stock subs with my base set at 2 or 3 and the tech at mazda even said that the sub was crap and he didn't know why mazda put the full 250w to that 125w speaker. so im just relaying what he told me. my bad if i sounded like a dick. i still love my car, just hate the stereo.jersey_emt said:The stock sub runs at 8 ohms.
The amp puts out 125W RMS / 250W Peak at 8ohms.
The wiring is designed for that amount of power.
The enclosure is designed for that amount of power.
Putting more than that through the system may, or may not, cause something to break.
Don't blame Mazda if you replace the stock 8-ohm sub with a 4-ohm, and overpower the amp/enclosure combo (it's not the lack of ventilation, it's mainly the fact that the amp is mounted upside down).
