So my stock radio is all messed up right now. When its cold outside, I try to turn up my radio and it turns the volume up a bit the it turns it all the way down, while I'm still turning the knob clockwise. I don't want to get an aftermarket stereo unless this is a problem with all the stock radios.

Haven't heard of this problem yet. How cold is "cold"? Below 0 or like 30 degrees?

In that range. In the summer it works fine, but now when the car sits outside when its 30 and lower I'll get back and it will do its own thing.

If it were under warranty I would say take it to the dealer. Otherwise I would try to find a newer unit at a junk yard or just buy an aftermarket one and be done with it.

The 99 CD player is junk. Mine did the same thing as well, and it wouldn't play burnt CD's to boot. Instead of worrying about how to fix the problem, I just bought an Alpine CD player last year. Works like a charm now.

There you go. I have now heard about the problem from two people. Time for a new head unit.

Mine did the same thing, but mine was a 00 cd player. stopped playing burned cds and the display started to get retarded. I opened it up and fixed it and it worked for a while and crapped out again. When to an aftermarket Cd player that plays mp3 and took that crap stock radio can smashed it with a sledgehammer.

just be careful with the alpine headunits if u buy that, mine didnt fit in the top portion, they hadda put it in the bottom part and put the pocket up top. Oh Well.

My Civic stock HU does that, but that it does it 80% of the time

i have no oney for a new HU :(

I might as well jump in too. My '99 stock radio also had the volume problem, turn it up a bit and it jumps down a few notches, regardless of weather.

Probably dirt in the contacts of the control knob causing bounce on the circuit.

I didn't take it apart and clean it, I took it as an excuse to replace it as well.

Really? My Alpine unit fit in the top portion, and they were still able to leave the factory pocket thing underneath.
