STI vs. SS Camaro video

well, there is a bit of a difference between a z28 and a SS
except not. the SS is basically an appearance package...unless you get the SLP package which comes with exhaust and slightly better suspension...which in the end, if you get borla...same thing...and with the super sucker ram-air kit he has...it's just as good as the crap ass "ram-air" on the SS.

true, but 15 extra HP, and 10 extra tq, not to mention a slightly different suspension and WAY wider tires (245 vs 275)

there is the difference

personally, I would prefer the borla and aftermarket RAI, but we are comparing the stock cars.

the SS code is wu8 I believe, and it comes with this stuff, if you dont have it, then you dont have a true SS

i know it's not a true SS unless you get it from the factory that way...but stock for stock there really isnt that much difference. if you run an SS without the SLP package against a stock z/28 they will run pretty much even... that 15 hp rating is not to the wheels, so really, it's not that much power. and have you ever looked at the ram-air system of the SS? it's pretty much pointless. it gives colder air, but that's about it. it's too indirect to give enough power gain to make a difference. other than that, the SS is apearance. the tire width would make a little difference, but still...not THAT much.

well certainly, I'm just saying that its not all apearance. 3cm is a huge difference

traction is a huge problem with 4th gen camaros... the rear diffs are VERY weak in stock form, but the Chevy engineers didn't worry about it, because they are engineered to lose traction before they can transfer enough torque to break the differential.

it's not going to be enough difference to keep the car from losing traction off the line. i guarantee, a z won't get it's ass whooped by an SS just because of slightly wider tires.

the first 60ft is HUGELY crucial to really good times. lemme try to cut up some video I have of a friend of mine's car to illistrate... it is a full drag car, 76 Nova, running in the "narrow tire, street legal" class, this car is a eight and a half second car, but this is due to its restrictions (10.5" wide tire, and no wheelie bars)... it would be quite a bit faster with out these restrictions.

so does it run 8.5 sec on the 10.5" tires??? that car must be damn fast...

definitely wanna see a video of it :D

rear ends on them are definitely very weak. as you see in my sig i have a 94 formula...wanna make it hella fast...and that's one of those things i'll have to worry about eventually. rear ends are so expensive though...:(

yeah, whats funny is that he actually only runs 10" wides... but he is allowed 10.5"... I cant rememebr why he doesn't... probably fitting them in the wheelwells... I cant find any footage of any runs on the bottle... but I found some all-motor runs... I'm working on it

well, here is one clip.... its a 10.05 (all motor) and you can hear the engine surging as the tires spin some.... I'll get some more too...

oh, and by the way, the suspension isn't fully set up on this video either... I have some vid of them nearly losing it because... this is the first night this car EVER went to the drags.... getting her cherry popped right here.

come on guys awd will launch better than rwd any day.

anyway AT THE TRACK where idiots arent street racing and present a danger to innocent people, an STI vs a camaro ss, camaro would win. you might think the STI won but it was to the light

sti's/wrx awd cars launch very well, and almost everything would be playing catch-up to them. remember that parasitic drivetrain loss up high would result in the ss catching up (rwd and 4 extra cylinders), the ss will win

moral of the story: sti/wrx's are fast off the line (dont get me wrong VERY FAST and still a quick car) but not as fast compared to itself up high vs the launch

i definitely agree that the SS would win at the track.

I was going to pick Hi-Perfs quote until i say this one.

The STI driver did a great job driving.
He would have beaten him on the track too.
Not to say that the SS isnt fast because he did make up alot of ground after second gear. s*** you could see and hear it, but the AWD STI with comparible mods will win down the 1/4 mile. (disclaimer-- As long as the launch is good).

Good race.

what's done to the car?
everything... the engine cost him more than my car cost me... if thats a starting point ;) but its a full billet block, all forged, dual dominator carbs, high-rise manifold, head work on Brodix heads, custom cam, 4-link suspension, currie ford 9" rear, tranny brake, fully gutted, race seat...etc etc etc plenty of little things too that I just cant remember
