Stereo very quiet

I just bought a used 2007 mazda 3 gt 5 door with what i believe is the bose sound system. I don't believe there has been anything changed with the stereo system but i'm not 100% sure. The problem is that when playing music (fm/am/cd/aux) the stereo is fairly quiet. For example, when i'm driving with the windows down, I can barely hear the stereo when the volume is maxed at 63, and when it's maxed, the audio is distorted. I've tried disconnecting the battery to see if that would fix it but to no avail. The speakers don't sound blown (i took audio engineering) but just very weak. Could it be a connection issue in the back or...? Many thanks in advance.

There is a TSB for it, Mazda will replace it for free, you have a 2007 but it might apply to you as well.

I think TSBs only apply to cars under warranty, saying so in the aforementioned pdf document. If this helps,
