steering wheel shifting left and right

Guys,

Do any of your cars do this..if so I wont bring mine in.

When i hit bumps and i hold the steering wheel loosely it shifts around going left and right: i have to have a firm hold to keep the car going straight. I am thinking maybe a defective tire (i did hit a pretty big pothole once)

Late Model Proteges are pretty well known for not having a "dead-spot" in the steering. I would go get that checked out. I avoid pot holes as well as I can, though I have hit a few. Still - I've got underbody neons, and they have never been scratched, I know - the car is up on the lift quite often, I glance at them all the time.
