steering wheel radio control problem

(help) The steering wheel radio controls in my Speed3 have gone insane. To be more precise, they seem to have all shifted by one. For example, the button to select a lower radio preset now mutes the radio. To change the Mode, I now have to press the Volume Up button. I swapped out the factory amp and speakers (did not cut the harness behind the radio - did cut the one under the driver's seat) so I'm betting that if I go to the dealer they'll cry "voided warranty". Any suggestions?

what did you cut under the drivers seat specificaly? i would suggest putting the wires back to stock (butt splice or wire tap something easy) just to test and see if that is indeed the problem....

and yes with a problem like that and what you did i am sure you will be paying out of pocket at 90+$ an hour plus parts for them to screw the pooch a while and then tell you they have no idea...

I cut the line outs carrying the front signals to the amp and spliced in RCAs so I could connect them to an aftermarket amp. I also cut and spliced into the speaker wires going to the front doors (running wire into these doors is a bear).
The upgrade has been in place for a month and this just started a couple of days ago, so I don't think they are connected, although I could be wrong.
Final, really revolting development, the dreaded "intermittent" word. I forgot to mention earlier that the problem comes and goes for no apparent reason.(bang)

ugh that sucks...intermittent is the worse and i thought it just started after your stereo upgrade... you are using a LOC and didn't just splice speaker wire into rca wire did you?? yeah running wire in the doors sucks but it was worth the piece of mind i was after..... anything else different when it happens? are the controls on the face plate correct? does it always happen at a cold start? how does it stop on its own or do you have to stop and turn on/off the car? do you have to reset the ecu? have you reset the ecu lately?

I cut the line outs carrying the front signals to the (factory) amp and spliced in RCAs so I could connect them to an aftermarket amp.
It comes and goes for no apparent reason. I'm driving along and I change stations or adjust the volume and it works fine. A little later they are confused. It just comes and goes.
The last time the ecu was reset was when I put in the amp & speakers, because the battery had to be disconnected.
