I had a CEL, asked them to check - $146 to tell me 2 codes. Didn't even clear the codes! Didn't even test drive the car! Broke off a bolt that holds the engine cover to the TMIC, tried to cover it up with black gasket seal! When I complained, they drilled it out, and put a Bolt/Nut under the TMIC - Practically impossible to replace, and still gunked up with gasket seal. I will file a BBB complaint.
Oh yeah, the codes - P0301 - engine misfire, Cylinder 1. They said threw the same code repeatedly. They told me I need to get a new coil for $16o and 4 new plugs for $36 each - PARTS ONLY. I reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery, then followed the proper test procedure - guess what? No CEL yet.
Code 2 = P0126 - Thermostat or sensor - they want $90!
Did I mention that I always check mileage when I drop the car - After 2 full days at the shop, the car had 1 extra mile on it - Insuffuicient for a proper test. And when I looked under the hood - I found a magnetic extension tool! Good work guys! I always leave tools behind after I work on something.
I tried to explain to the service manager that this "jury rigging", and improper testing really calls into question the integrity of all the work they have ever done for me. Makes me wonder if they actually change the oil filters or not. Once a shop loses it's customers trust, they are done.
