Static Electricity

This is just a question to all here,

Do you all notice that the MSP produces a hell of a lot of static electricity? I notice this EVERY Damn time I get out of the car. I go to shut the door and ZAP!

Last night it was so bad I could have sworn lightnig was coming from my fingers...

Anyway I do know that it is from the cloth interior, but I did notice that the car does generate more of it when the car is on. I've sat in the car before, just messing aroudn while off, and the shock wasn't as pronounced as it was when the car was on. Mazda must have really used high current wire to the frame of the MSP for grounding, and I'm just a big wuss (probably the later of the 2!)

well I would to go with the latter also, hehe you are a big wuss! hehe. I noticed that too though, everytime I get out of the car, "ZAP!" and my friends all say that too. It must be that zoom zoom flowing through the car that Mazda keeps talking about...

I noticed the exact same thing. On my old mx-3 there was a ground on the inside of the door, that looked like a button and said "touch" on it. If I touched it I would never get a shock. I looked for something like that on the speed but didn't find anything.

I tried to use the MazdaSpeed Door sil, but I still got shocked.

I'm going to have to find something else or use some other part to close the door (right now I use the pilar)

Yeah, my protege shocks the crap out of me when I get out. There are several threads on this board about it. My gf's MX-3 used to have the "touch" thing and it worked great.

i heard a story on the news saying about a girl that when she was getting gas the static electricity from the car sparked and hit the gas so her car caught on fire and she died....it said that when you get gas to touch the outside of your car (anywhere) and that should make the static electricity go away

Take a dryer sheet and keep it in the car. Occasionally rub the interior with it, too. They work great for getting rid of static electricity. You know they won't damage anything because you wash your clothes with them.

Never have i felt static electricity from my car. Maybe it's what you wear?
Although there were a few times when i was wearing baggy pants, that the release hook to the sliders catch my pants. Everytime it happens i nearly fall to the ground. s*** it scares me..
Why don't they put the release hook over to the right side of the seat?

LOL yea i know what you mean, i have a chain i wear to my pocket (for my keys and s***) and sometimes it gets cought there, its hillarious cuz i make an ass out of myself.

Haven't had a problem with the car doing that to me, but I swear my house is one big ball of static energy!!!!!!!!!!!! I am always shocking someone or getting shocked!

I have the static problem too. I found if you spray the seats and the floor mats with Static Guard it goes away. My Miata has this problem as well.

One more thing about seats.......DON"T SLEEP ON THEM!! My girlfriend woke up the other day after she slept on them during a short trip to Dayton and she had wafflehead. The pattern of the seats made a nice mark on her forehead. "I wasn't laughing at you.....I was laughing with you.......reallly!"

Ummmmmm 3M/Scotchgard stain repellent (and I'm sure other fabric protectants) also protect against static electricity. I spray the whole car once a year, and no static electricity AT ALL. Just another good reason to 3M your car.
