starting the p5 engine

when i start my P5, it revvs differently every time. sometimes when i start it up, the tach will read at like 2000 rpm when other times it wil read at like 700 rpm. is this normal and ive just never noticed it before in any other car?

It's normal.

It depends on how warm your car is. If you let it sit, say overnight, it is going to go to High Idle when you crank it in the morning to get everything up to operating temperature... If you crank it after it has been recently driven, say a couple hours, it is warm enough that the computer decides it doesn't need a high idle condition. That should explain the difference you are noticing. Anyways, Enjoy your P5!

Hmmm....thought I was the only one experiencing that...then again, I've only had my P5 for a week now...<chuckle> (wow)

Mine does it all the time. At first it was alarming but now I am used to it. I have had mine two months now.

Now thats it cold here in Toronto, I have a question. I do notice the revs are hight at first. I figure I should let it drop to about 1K or so. Am I waisting my time doing this, I just dont want to hurt the engine and drive it when its cold. But one more thing, sometimes Im in a rush and dont feel like "warming" the engine. Is that really bad????

You're not going to hurt anything, just drive like an old person for a few minutes and let the car warm up while driving. Don't go over ~3,000 Rpms, and just take it easy. You should be good for normal driving when the temp. gauge reaches normal temperature. In fact, if you look in your owner's manual, I bet they will recommend warming it up that way, other than letting it sit. :) At least my previous cars all did, I'm fairly sure this one does too.

I'd say after a cold start, let the car idle high for 30 sec before driving it off. Then, drive it easy for a couple of miles before getting on it.
