Standard (non-Infotainment / Bose) Speaker Sizes?

:
2014 Mazda3
1st time on the forum:

Looking to see if anyone knows the size of the door speakers for the standard 4 speaker sound system. Definitely want to replace those and it appears the head unit will remain for quite some time due to its unique integration in everything else.

It appears the Bose has 230mm (about 9") front door speakers and 130mm (about 5.1") rear door speakers. Anyone know if this is the case with the crappier ones? Also interested if anyone else has replaced theirs. I usually get stuff through Crutchfield and thus far they have no information on any 2014 Mazda except the CX-5. They also do a great job of giving you info on how to get the doors opened up to access the speakers.

Thank you in advance!

On a standard POS factory radio---the front door speakers are 6" factory size-- mounted in a plastic hat section [bowl with about a 3/4" rim]. You can mount 6 1/2" in the plastic hat section...IF you forcibly remove the factory speaker by using a dremel tool to grind out the speaker supports to get a flat surface and then measure the inside to mount an MDF "O" ring to the plastic mount inside/top to fill the gap. You then screw the 6 1/2" speaker to the MDF ring and wire accordingly. Note allow space for the foam annulus supporting of the diaphragm to clear the MDF. Seal the MDF O Ring with caulking or silicone. I'm in process of doing mine. Doing the dynamat [or equivalent] treatment at the same time. NOTE--FYI an 8" would also fit with similar custom made MDF rings but you have to play around with the depth [1.5 to 2.0 in] so as not to hit the inside window with the magnet and allow for tweeter front clearance. I opted for more mid range...hence the 6 1/2 choice.
Good luck---Regards...Dennis

Is this still necessary? Crutchfield now says 6 1/2" speakers can be mounted in the front and rear doors if you use Metra brackets that they have in stock and drill new screw holes. I'd rather not have to hack up my door with a rotary tool if at all possible.
