are there any standalone management sytems out there for the ms3 ie: aem, hondata, or hp tuners? Im looking for something I can tune. I saw xede but i beleieve thats a piggy back and is already pre programed, and i saw something about cobb tuning? not sure what that is...? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Xede is a piggy back but isn't powerful enough long-term- some here already know why, I think. Cobb isn't out yet but it will be a reflash. A standalone ECU is a bad thing nowadays for a modern car- the factory ECU controls way too many things- and to a high degree of precision- that you wouldn't want to replace. Piggybacks and reflashes are the way to go.

CPE has some really interesting things going into a prototype piggyback unit that will relieve the limitations found in its competition (Xede). I think Cobb's stuff will ultimately be the best solution depending on how far they take things, but it can take years to unlock all the parts of the ECU needed to compete with the piggybacks.

The Mazdaspeed's ECU is complicated and has some maps that aren't seen on other cars, and I think there will be a race to see who can either override or replace them first.

So, bottom line: you'll have to wait a little longer if you want a good solution.

The Mazdaspeed3 has some tricky limitations that no current piggyback can currently handle that I'm aware of. I know of at least one guy with a Mazdaspeed6 who has run into one of several possible roadblocks, and he's working with Custom Performance Engineering who had already discovered and developed a work-around for the problem. The roadblocks apparently exists on the Mazdaspeed3, too.

Sorry for being vague- maybe CPE will comment, but I think this is still hush hush.

we have a Microtech Standalone we will be adapting - with plug and play hopefully - that will be a full standalone for the MS3 and MS6. for more information on Microtech, check them out here; http://microtechefi.com/

as for the XEDE - the current model does have certain limitations in regards to the number of inputs however the next hardware revision due late this year should address those.
