Stages of Performance

:
03 Silver Protege5
I used to own a 96 Dodge Neon sport. That was the single most underated car ever. People think of neons as crappy little cars, but with noting more than a $130 CAI, MPX underdrive pulleys, and an exhaust that wasn't an exhaust as much as it was a header with a pipe on it :D I could take out most civics and integras around here. I mean, how many other cars can you spend $5000 on (purchase included) and be running a 15.3?
Anyway, there was a site called Modernperformance.com that was nothing less than a one stop shop for damn near anything you could ever possibly need for neons and a few other cars. Modern Performance had a page that they called the "Stages of Performance." Basically, the owners of the site did some research and found the best aftermarket parts for the neon and the best order to put them on in, starting with cheap, not so powerful stuff, all the way up to turbo kits (S.o.P. ). I propose that every member of this site send the owners of Modern performance or some other after market website already heavily involved in Proteges to do the same. I think it would really solve a lot of problems and headaches that newbie tuners (like me) have.
Thanks for reading guys.

Dude why don't you just read and research. Two years ago I didn't know s*** about cars and now I really into it. I'm confident enough now that I would feel comfortable breaking into the engine block. That's about as far as I would go, I would never touch the electronics that stuff is way too complicated. You will never really become a good tuner unless you do that. Just read man but you idea is a good one. As for stages just look at what everyone is doing to their cars and look at what kind of mods they put in first. That'll give you a good idea as to what mads you should do first

generally speaking, the normal for people is

1) Intake
2) Exhaust
3) Short Shifter / Bushings

Those are probably the first three performance upgrades...and most eveyrone looks about getting rims and some sort of lowering device such as springs or coilovers

TONS of cars...ever hear of this country called the United States? See, they made and still make these cars driven by a V8 engine (pronounce it with me..."Vee-ate") and for about $5000 (including purchase price) it will dominate....

Now as far as posting/listing what mods make what power in combination, that is all good and what not. But the point of tuning is setting your own combination of parts and equipment and making that specific combination work well....it's what makes it all unique

Well it's not that Im not comfortable working on cars. I love working on older cars, but new ones are so damn complicated. I'm just afraid that Im gonna move one little bolt the wrong way and the whole damn engine wont work. And I just dont know what the best way to work on proteges is.

If you're going to send me a PM and call me "boy", then state it out in the public....this isn't 1950 Mississippi....

yea....search button...and BTW..there are tons of cars you could spend 5k$ on hooked up including purchase..i did it..several times..yea good luck though...boy..whoa bud..be easy on that one..

I ran 14's with an 87 Crown Vic for under $5,000. That was for engine mods, tranny, suspension, wheels and tires, exhaust, and purchasing the car. It got 24 mpg, could haul anything, and was still reliable, quiet and comfortable to drive. And it was one heck of a sleeper.

if you gonna talk speed for the money i can get you in the low 13's under 5k with a first gen rx7 mine doin really low 11's and 10's on occasion for only 11k
