SRT4 Swap??

I mean that's good don't get me wrong but put an exhaust and intake on the vette and see what happens its a built car vs. Stock car. Its still keeping up with a vette which is awesome. but I could take 10k. And have something faster and that's including buying the car but it won't handle near what a protege will. The problem with our cars is there's not much made for it aftermarket wise and what is made is way over priced. $20,000 seems like a lot of money but it doesn't go all that far. Id rather take the 20k and buy an ms3 and setttle with around 230 whp stock and be happy with it but that's me or an sti wagon...
 
I bought my car near brand new along with another brand new car at the same time so I got jacked on the interest I paid over $24k for the car have been modding it since 02. Being 39... I loved the car and didn't want another car payment ever! and just upgraded the next weaker link. So If I had $40k in my hand today I would do it differently and have 1000awhp :)
 
Yes it's without saying that you can obviously get more power from many many other platforms.

Then again I had a goal of as close to 400whp as I could which will eat up just about anything on the road including my bosses $80k 08 Z06 (from a roll any speed!) And possibly at the track with slicks should net me a very low 12 or lower.

I love the looks, styling and room I have for my two boys and their crap with my little P5 over most everything out there new or old.... just needed to catch up on every other aspect of it!!

Point is do you really want to cruise around on some gay ass scooter no matter how fast it is!?



Very well Said Shane.. It all deppends what we all like.. I have Walked quite few Z06s, Stis, Evos, ***** SRT-4s Modded, New M3s and the best My friends 2009 Gallardo.. If i had more money Ill definitely keep my MSP and just Build it more insane with a AWD System and everything redone alot better. I really enjoy to drive something nobody has and that nobody expect to be as fast as it is...
 
Id have to see the gallardo part to believe it till you post a vid I'm callin bs. If it did infact pull on a gallardo it would totaly change my opinio on the fast part

Well, if you think is BS, search my build thread, you will find out what i have under the hood. I also have 3 videos i made, my Last dyno before my Stage 3 Upgrades to call it bigger toys, 0-150 mph video, and another rolling speedo shot.. These cars are faster than what you can think of when they have the right mods and tune.

btw i didnt pull on the gallardo, I ***** his Rear til 172 mph, right after that he pulled next to me and started to left me behind, by like 4 cars..

Holy s*** ok you changed my mind :) I will no longer rag on how slow they are built...which obviously they're not. But I still wouldn't swap an srt4 motor into it or a honda motor. I still wana see somebody swap a 4g63 I wish I had the money to do it or go turbo actually may make me wana keep my mp3

the MP3 is an economy car from 2001... it was never meant to go fast, nor were any proteges for that matter. the MSP was the first mazdaspeed so there were obviously **** ups (weak rods and tranny) if you really want to mod the damn thing throw a built engine into it and GTX revised gears and your pretty much set to 400hp at the crank with barely any worries if you treat her right.
 
I know this my mp3 will probly never see a turbo.or over 160 hp at most itl get a p&p and cams. Its true they weren't meant to be fast but obviously you can make them fast. Can you post a link to the gear set I just want something geared lower so itl be easier on the interstate even though its off topic.
 
just to clarify something. if you put 20k in your protege i feel like you will be more in mid 10s(with drag tires of course), which i consider fast. Second, a 505hp z06 do low 11 all day. 10 with slicks.

And i agrre with people saying just build teh engine and put big turbo.
 
So $20k is the price tag for 10's huh?? LOL

Take away the awesome launch the z06 has with it's tall gearing and guess what?? No more advantage just an extra 350lbs with nearly the same hp/lbs as my little wagon.

Yes 10's with slicks and even better if you mod it a little! Whats the point we're comparing a freaking converted 100whp p5!
 
I like how every time a thread pops up about building a protege or making power with one. They always end up being compared to a completely different platform no where as close to being a protege. In the end, anything can be done with determination, patience, knowledge and money.
 
I mean if were comparing different platforms buy a zx10 ninja run 9s stock :) but. That's not really fair is it?
 
It was my fault for bringing up the z06 thing! But seriously though a few weeks after reality set in with my boss he came in talking about maybe trading the car in with a Porsche brochure in his hand...being the funny man he is!

He knows the hard work I've done and even got dirty helping me guide my tranny back in once in our bay...he just likes to screw with me. Since I'm under my car at least once a week checking s*** at work on the clock lol!

...and I'm an engineer not a mechanic if thats what you were thinking :)
 
My car ***** a porsche on a back road straight stretches were another story but in the turns he had nothing. So he won't be too happy after he gets his porsche either
 
To get us back on topic to the OP have you considered a klze swap? About the same power as in srt4 and way easier
 
Not really the same hp, but not bad and has a nice torque curve, as well as sounding quite mean.

4g63 is a No GO also because it is backwards, unless your talking evo 4g63. I suggested sr20det swap because it is layed out the same way, but that would simply be for novelty because FSDE can make similar numbers once it is built and tuned which will be about the same price as shoe horning a sr20 into the protege anyways.

Mp3/MSP are a drivers car, anyone can drive in a straight line for 13 or so seconds. But drive around a salom course or SCCA solo event course in an 11 sec Evo or AWD talon and you will be behind the power curve all day. I turned down buying an '01 S4(twin turbo AWD) for the same reason Shane kept his P5. I have had many 500whp Talons, 9 to be exact, but I end up missing my b13 SE-R with full suspension and 154whp. So if you want power, you will have to pay to play. If you want handling and g force, you will have to pay to play as well, but its up to what you want in the end that matters. My MSP has been my wifes car for 6 years now and has been the best car I have ever owned hands down. It is now my car and will be getting a steady diet of parts over the next year so that I can get back into auto-x.
 
Thought the evo and talon had the same motor just different head and turbo? A 4g63 is the same either way you go the talon my brother had the motor was on the passenger side just like the protege...

And sorry but your wrong on the sr20 part they can easily push 600whp but the fwd trans can't hold up to the power.nissan used the same motor as the sylvia. I know this cause I've done s*** tons of research between the sr20 and rb series. On a side note the sr20 can hold around 400 hp on stock internals

And I also plan to do some autox this summer if I can get everything fixed.

Your brother had a 420a talon, which is the same motor they put in the Neon.
-1g dsms have a 4g63, 7.8:1 compression, 6 bolt crank(up to 1992.5), 14b turbo
-2g dsms have 8.5:1 compression, 7 bolt(crank walk), different head porting, t25, and different other things
-Evo 4-9 has 8.8:1 compression, engine swapped around with cam gears on the passenger fire wall, 16g turbo 3 bolt flange

Find me a stock sr20 making 600whp, please. Yeah a stock sr20 can handle 400whp, but what I was getting at is that by the time you get it in the MSP, wire it up, standalone, tranny hooked up right, exhaust routed right, its gonna cost as much to just build an FSDE. I guess I should have been clearer.
