SRI and Winter Use?

I am looking at picking up a SRI in spring, but I would like to know if I can keep it on during the cold winters up here in Wisconsin? Someone I was talking to said that they had to remove their CAI during the winter so it wouldn't ice up (this being on a chevy pickup truck). Is this the case in cold climates, or will I be fine leaving a SRI on my car during the winter? Oh and I am thinking about getting the Simota SRI.

Thanks,
Josh

SRI will be fine... you will also have the heat from the engine to warm it up if your worried about it... maybe your buddies CAi filter froze due to a oiled filter(never heard of one freezeign before)?

You'll be fine with an SRI. I would guess that the guys CAI froze because snow collected on it and then froze. SRI is in the engine bay instead of the wheel well like the CAI. You will have zero problems.

for what its worth, i have an injen CAI on my protege and i run it year round in the north east. the car actually runs BETTER the colder it gets.

A word of warning about the Simota: the placement of the MAF housing results in the wiring to the MAF being slightly too tight, at least on my car. I never noticed a problem, but last Wednesday the wires were ripped out of the harness (after using the Simota for a couple of years). Unfortunately, this cannot be repaired (the car has been to the dealer and to the parts store/mechanic/performance shop that has done all of my performance parts work for about 12 years). The shop managed to find the complete assembly for an inexpensive $375 and should be installing it today (the dealer wanted $1500 for the apparently the same part).

I'm now looking into getting the new Corksport SRI when it arrives. The shop is lengthening the MAF wires for me for the future just to be safe.

Chibana if you do get the corksport SRI let me know how it feels compared to the Simota SRI. Since I just saw the post about the corksport SRI I am contemplating them both.

Thanks,
Josh

Our design will not put any strain on the MAF harness. I've seen entire brackets break off of piping due to engine vibration and metal fatigue. It takes so much less for wiring.

Do you have your Simota anchored to the radiator core support with that band clamp they supply? You may have encountered a strain situation when the engine torqued over. Ours SRI is not fixed to the engine bay, it is allowed to move with the engine.

Thanks, Jason. It's been too long since I installed it to remember where it's hooked up, but I know I followed the directions, so it's hooked up however they designed it to be. I look forward to getting the CorkSport intake, and doing business with you again. I purchased my Quaife ATB differential from you years ago.

I'll definitely post up my impressions of the intake after I get it. I don't expect to notice any difference in power, since it would probably only amount to 1 or 2 either way, at most, but I'll make a post with my impressions overall (sound, quality--the existing one sure looks good).
