Squeaky shock?

Ok, I haven't done anything out of the ordinary with my car. Yesterday here in Madison, WI, it got pretty darn cold (40 degrees in the morning). After leaving work, my car was outside for about 8 hours in chilly temps. I went out onto the street and hit some standard bumps. I hear some squeaks coming from the suspension.

Should I be worried? Is this a destroyed shock? Or is the coldness just tightening them up a bit? I got out of the car and my friend and I tried pushing each corner of the car down as hard as we could, and we couldn't get any of them to squeak. My spare is very tight as well. Any ideas? Anybody else with this problem? Thanks!

I have heard the same thing, but sometimes only in the morning. I don't think it is anything to worry about. It is probably just like letting your car warm up.

Well thats a relief. Yeah, it does seem to happen especially when the car is not warmed up - especially when the temperature outside is cool. Thanks for the confidence ;)

That is WILD.................

I was so worried this morning and thought that the suspension was shot!!!!!

It must have been the cold weather, in jersey, it was the coldest morning of the season so far and i noticed (i think the rear) shocks were making sort of a squeaky, banging type noise, not too loud, but noticeable!!!!!!!!!

So you guys figure it must be just adjusting to the weather change?????

I haven't experienced any of those problems yet. Today was the coldest morning we've had in South Louisiana in a while. The temperatures dipped down into the upper 50's. :D

Damn good idea for a web page. Anyhow, I live in Eastern CAnada, and it's getting much colder here in the mornings. And sure enough, my shocks do indeed have the same sound in the mornings up until the car warms up, and then it's gone

Anyone notice a louder thunking noise in the rear shocks going over bumps? Especially if the car is wet....like in the rain. Please tell me my shocks are ok

That noise everyone is hearing is most likely from the Urethane bushings on the sway bars, a few of my buds that upgrade there suspension with Urethane bushings started to experience simular noise when it started to get cold, I have been told that applying grease will stop the noise. I started to hear the noise myself a couple of weeks ago.

Hey guys,

I have actually experience this problem since the week I bought the car. My squeeks started out rather small, but eventually got worse. I took it to my dealership and they greased the bushings. This worked well from three days, then the squeeks were back. When I took it back this time they told me that the bushings were shot and that they would order new ones. Made me mad considering I only had 1500 mi in the car.
Since the bushings will take nearly 2 weeks to get here I took off the bushings myself and cleaned them and the sway bar thourougly, the grease that the dealer ship had applied had attracted TONS of dirt which only added to the problem. Once all the parts were clean I applied a liberal amount of Graphite to the bushing and re-installed. Worked like a charm, only rarely does the suspension squeek now. I'm still going to have the dealership get mea new set of bushing though!
