Squeak Under Left Foot

Hi everyone,

I have a 2012 Mazda 3 GT manual. I've noticed the last couple of months an intermittent squeaking noise somewhere in the area of my left foot. I haven't determined if its inside the car or in the engine area, but I believe the latter.

I've been able to determine the easiest way to make it do it, and that is when I accelerate hard and then let off the gas completely. I also managed to do it in the driveway, parked. It's definitely when the motor is moving the most, like the extreme movement when the motor changes from acceleration to deceleration as mentioned.

Have you guys heard of any similar issues, and do you know what it could be? With my somewhat knowledge of cars, I'm thinking it may be either an engine or transmission mount making the noise.

Thank you for any help or advice!

There are a couple of good probabilities :

The transmission motor mount. I have a 2010 Mazda 3 with a 6-speed manual transmission. The creaking noise was driving me absolutely nuts. The noise was loud in the low gets (1-3), but I also heard it a few times hitting bumps or pot holes. I knew it had nothing to do with the struts or clutch.
The first dealership could hear it, but really acted like I was full of crap. He told me to come back if it gets worse.
The second Mazda dealership listened to me (I told them to check the transmission MM), and replaced under the power train warranty. Not only is the noise gone, but the gears shift much easier and smoother than before.

A second cause (the one I had in my 2007 Mazda 3 GT) was the steel braiding cables connected to shift linkage and gas cable.

From the factory, the u-clamp that holds these in was missing one of the two nuts so this cable sleeve (think split loom but made of metal) was getting pulled back and forth under acceleration.

I got under and managed to get a second nut on there and the problem went away.

I am now experiencing the same issue on my '10 Mazdaspeed 3. Waiting to get it up on a lift to take a look at it. Didn't know about the tranny mount - thanks for the heads up!
