Japan strikes back
Taking on BMWs up-coming M3 and Mercedes future C 63 AMG, the new IS 500 is certainly appreciated by sport-saloon fanatics. We haven't seen or heard much about it lately, but it appears as though the V8-powered Lexus IS 500 is still an ongoing project. This prototype spotted on the Nrburgring is clearly no ordinary IS 350 given its deep front air dam, extra large boot lid spoiler and two pairs of exhaust pipes. On top of that, we just heard a rumour that the new LS 460 will be the first Lexus with an electronic stability control system which can be deactivated. We can only hope this high-powered IS will be the next nanny-less Lexus headed our way.

The one Rod Millen built with a 4.3 V8 from a GS 430. I would love to do this swap.

uhm shouldn't someone tell them their tires are missing? (poke)

Yay on the car. Nay on those ugly exhausts!

The IS looks so much better in person. BMW better watch it's back. Offer it with a 6spd manual, and they will not be able to build enough.

Why does BMW need to watch its back? The E90(Sedan) and E92(Coupe/Conv) M3 will have a 400+ hp V8 under the hood and will have both a 6spd manual and SMG.

I want to see Infiniti's response to a V8 powered IS. Wouldn't a G45 be cool?

If Toyota can get the handling dynamics right and offer 90 - 95% of the M3 experience ad a substantial discount (That M3's probably gunna be overpiced like the rest of them) in a car that looks nicer (the bangle designed BMWS ar UGLY), then they might have a problem.

You won't find someone who WAS a bigger fan of BMW than I was. But their styling choices just killed it for me, plus it's getting to the point where the pricing is outta hand. A lot better performing and equipped cars for a lot less cash than the Bimmers. The bigger they are.......
