Spring Meet?

I came last time its a bit of a drive for me to do all the time. Working on getting the car running good again too.

I'm sorry the turnout was low. As I said earlier, I would not be there because I'd be in Richmond for a show. Trust me, it was hot at that parking lot. Next door, they had autox going on. I watched some of that, for the first time. The favored car was the Miata. The photo shows our Miata and Roush Mustang at work.

I don't know what it is about participation; but, I've noticed these little Mazda gatherings don't amount to much. Even the big ones are little more than what one would find at a local Sonic cruise-in. Saturday, I went to a pony car roundup at Frankfort and was pleased to see over 70 Mustangs. It was a delightful event. Since Mazda events can take in several models, I'm wondering why it is that folks don't participate. Could it be the age of the participants that's the difference? The average age at the Mustang event was well above the 20's, I'm sure. Maybe us older folks have more time for these things? I wish I knew; but, I do know I don't much want to drive the distance to Louisville, or others, to join up with maybe two or three other guys when I can go to a show, or cruise-in, and be part of a large crowd of folks.

What you might want to consider doing is have your group meets as part of car shows, cruise-ins, etc so there are other cars to look at, etc. The draw may be better, that way. Let's face it. Given the choice of joining up with a hand full of you guys, or going to Somernites Cruise in Somerset where there are over 1000 cars to see, is a no brainer. Of course, that's just the opinion of an old fart who already knows how hard it is to get something like this going.

The problem with Mazdas, at least from what I have seen, is that you have three very distinct groups that don't like meeting the others.

Miatas
Rotaires
Everything else.

Miata owners are the worst to get to Mazda meets and rotary owners' cars never run to make it out. I'm very displeased with the amount of enthusiasm in the Mazda community. Back when I drove my Focus, there were HUGE meets all the time...for a Focus.

I guess you nailed it. I've found a few Miata fellas who meet in Lexington, some. I've had lunch with one of them, a couple of times. We have the common interest in V8 Miatas; but, some of his buddies just like Miatas, period. I met some of them at the autox meet in Richmond, Saturday. It's been the only way I could hook up with some of those folks, since I don't race or do autox.

We have our lives so tied up in other things that it's nearly impossible to get anything organized, anymore. Now, you understand why I like coaching, only. I'd be disappointed when nobody shows, for sure. I reckon I'll just take my little Miata to shows where I know there will be plenty of old folks like me who like to show off what they own. In the meantime, keep trying.
